Title: Newnan Heartbreaker
Post by: mullet on July 09, 2016, 01:31:04 pm
I picked up this Classic Newnan point at the Flea Market this morning along with another Draw Knife, all for $20. Just wanted to show everybody a used to be $2 grand point if the ear was intact. It is heat treated, gem quality, translucent coral. As is it is still in the $200 range

Maybe to fix it , you could end up "breaking" (?)  the other ear to make it symmetrical 😊

Isaiah, to find one whole, without any chips is a once in a lifetime deal unless you have a lot of cash and buy them.A Newnan made from rock of this quality and perfect is a work of prehistoric rock. They are from the Stemmed Archaic period. That is why even broken it is still worth what some points from other states are, whole.

You're suggesting this is an old artifact?

LM, yea, She had it in a jewelry box with some nicknacks. I see broken points every week there but very few I'll reach for.

If anyone wants to get a real idea of the value of these points and see some nice points check out a site called Paleo Enterprise. Good friends of mine own this business and Carlos Tatum owns the Newnan point featured in Overstreet's newest additon called, "Big Red". This point was found about 20 miles east of where Red was.

Newnans are my favorites to make. Eddie that's a great find even damaged. Where do you think that coral came from?

Roger, It looks like the heat treated coral I've seen flakes of around Buddy Lake and the Zephryhills area. I think most of that coral came from the Section 23 area of the Hillsborough River.
