Title: First attempt at brain tanning
Post by: BrianS on July 05, 2016, 06:08:08 pm: I always wanted to brain tan a hide but never quite found the time. Inspired by friends Dino Z. and Rob M., I finally MADE the time this year to do it! It was a lot of work but fun. I learned a bunch, made some mistakes, stuck with it. My work is not as nice as theirs but I was satisfied with my results for my first attempt. I still need to smoke it but I think they hard part is behind me. Not sure what it will be made into. Right now, I am leaning towards making it into a shooting bag and if there is enough left over a strap for the basket quiver Dino's Wife made. If anyone else (Buffalo Gobbler) is considering trying to tan a hide, go ahead and give it a go! If I could do it, You can to.

Is it perfect? Nope but I am proud to say I made it.

Post by: BowEd on July 12, 2016, 07:45:30 pm: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I say.You should get all the use out of it you should need.Making things to function well is the prime concern here I'd think.A brain tan bag like that can be decorated anytime later.Usually utiltarian type projects I don't want decorated.They get too much abuse put on them being used.Nice job.
