Title: museum
Post by: Spotted Dog on June 30, 2016, 10:41:21 pm
Hey guys, I do not know where to put this so move it as needed.
My wife and I went to a museum at Top Of The Rock. About 10 miles south of Branson Mo.
The best ever collection of Native American artifacts I have seen. Basket Maker era thru 1900s.
Points, pipes, parfletch, tools, AXES out the ...............  Clothing. I could spend days there.
You Missoura boys need to go.

Cool! Haven't been there yet. We just visited the cohekia mounds last week by St. Louis, largest settlement north Mexico until the late 18th century.  Pretty neat to see the models of it in its hay days nice museum too.

I live in Jefferson County just south of St.Louis and almost any where here you can find points and chippings, the bad side to this is the State does not bother to go out and inspect sights for artifacts before they build. They covered one huge side with a subdivision and another with a High School. What a waste to Native Americans and Primitive Man. because a lot of artifacts are way before Native Americans.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out the next time we go south.

It is sad. The have done that here in Kansas City too.  Forgot they hav a mammoth , short faced bear, American lion and a giant sloth in there too.
That bear is crazy big.
Points from tiny to ceremonial ones. The bows are great too.

I forgot this point. We did a golf cart tour of the area. First stop there was flint nodules sticking out every where.
Huge ones. Could of had a knap in there. I picked up one small piece. It is gray stone inside.

S.D., I guess I've never thought about it, but the juncture there of the Kaw and the Missouri had to be a huge native site.. Yet, the only museum I know of is for some steam boat that sank... Really sad!
