This tree had what looked like a birch top with leaves, not needles. Birch trees are more distinctive. Is this red alder?
-
I dunno, does it have some distinctive heart wood color? was it found somewhere it could be an ornamental or transplant?
-
Here are more pics.

Found it between highway and railway at twentymile river.
-
Do you have a pic of the leaves?
-
Looks like some kind of conifer.

Honestly looked like a birch tree. The tree top had leaves and the bark was very identical to paper birch. I looked up red alder and this looks like it. Could be wrong.
-
Conifers have needles, not leaves. This tree had leaves.

Another pic

Red Elm? Black Mulberry? Linden?
Is that heart-shaped leaf in the photo from the tree in question? If so I'm leaning black mulberry. The heartwood is pretty.
-
It's not alder, alder goes orange when air touches it.
-
Hmmm. Ill get some pics of leaves tomorrow.
-
With the green inner bark I would say tree of heaven. Josh

Looks like some kind of poplar or cottonwood to me.
