Well summer has arrived here driving the temps into the 90's.Humid and hot.Saw a pretty water snake today in the pond and a fawn deer huddled under a multiflora rose.Ticks are working overtime but not many misquitos.Could use some rain but not desperate yet.

I'm seeing the same thing here. I just watched a doe and a fawn cross our yard. The black rat snakes are on the roads and getting hit.

What are snakes?

They are those little legless critters that are made from bow backings

I nearly stepped on a fawn this past sunday. It was laying just off the trail six feet from me and three friends as we shot at a target at a archery shoot. When I took a couple steps to go retrieve our arrows it clumsily struggled to it's feet just as I was about to step on it. Had no idea it was laying there and it really surprised me. It had a hard time scrambling a few yards away and we figured by the way it was so wobbly on its feet that it was probably less than a full day old.

I haven't seen any fawns yet this year but I did see our black snake a few days ago. He's(she) probably 7' to 8' long, was stretched out on the tongue of a trailer, folded back on itself and at least 1/3 of it I couldn't see. This snake has been around for many years and I'm amazed just how big he(or she) is. Maybe this is why we don't see many copperheads any more.

Saw a 2' copperhead stretched out on the dirt road last evening. It was just soaking up the warmth I guess.
Went around it... maybe it'll eat some mice I hope.
