Title: Is rust a problem with regards to wooden bows???
Post by: SLIMBOB on June 09, 2016, 10:46:41 am
I submit that it can be. Not the oxidized metal kind of rust, but the rust from inactivity. Been away from it for a while. Couple of health related issue have had me sidelined for a bit. Nothing to awful, but enough to slow me down to a crawl. Literally. I have tinkered with a few here and there but not much. I have checked in on you guys periodically though. Things are on the mend and I am trying to finish a few up right now, but shaking the rust off is a chore.  Hope everyone is well. :P

Well, first of all , welcome back!
From my understanding, since the bow hasn't been used for some time, you should do the same procedure as when you "break in" a bow, meaning putting it on the tillering tree and bending it every few inches to exercise the tension and compression properties of the wood again.

I hope I was of help.
Stay safe!

Rust shouldn't hurt the bow but I'm not sure about you.  ;)
Exercising and reeducation an unused bow is a good idea, though, like Knotty suggested.

Hey Clint. Glad you checked in and good to talk...or type to you.
Sup Christopher?
Hey Pat.
Thunder, good to hear from you. I was looking at some picks of your Elm bows just the other day.

Yeah, just clarify, no rust on the bows, they're all good, just rust on my 55 year old bones. Feels good to be at it again.
