-
I'm praying for him now. If anyone has any more info please keep us informed.
-
What happened, and how did it?
-
What i read on fb was that he fell 30ft from a tree and had a burst injury and severed his spine in the L1 L2
-
Oh my! Pryers sent and they will continue for Bryce. Jawge
-
I just heard the news today and made me pretty upset he's such a good dude and I just pray for a miracle he MUST walk again!
-
The small Northwest bowyers community of which Bryce has been an integral part is just beginning to grasp the enormity of what has happened. Needless to say we are devastated by this news. Please pray for our friend.
-
My gosh... Prayers and thoughts for a full recovery. Please keep us informed
-
Prayers sent... Brian

I'm reeling from this news. For those of you who don't know Bryce, he is giving, active and full of life. He's an all around great guy who has been an important member of our bowmaking/archery community. I know that we're not supposed to post links here but there is a page where people can contribute to support his expenses. If I get permission from the admins here I will post the link.

-
That's just not fair. Please keep us updated.
-
Makes me sick to even think about it. I haven't met Bryce, but have talked to him for years. Weylin's summation is exactly how I would explain the guy.
Get better Brycey boy, I'm thinking about you.
-
Truly sad news, hoping the road to recovery isn't to long and difficult for him.
-
My thoughts are with you bryce!
-
That really sucks and is terrible news. Prayers are being sent.
-
I haven't been on in a while, and this is the first post I see. Just to let you know we are praying for you in the deep south, PC.

Very sad to hear this. I hope and pray that he makes a full recovery.

Very sad news. Thoughts are with you Bryce...take it one day at a time man.

If the admin's don't allow posting the link to donate to the family, will someone PM me the link?
thanks, -Drew
-
I would like that link as well.

This is awful, sending prayers to Bryce, family, friends and doctors.

Guys, I'm checking with the Admin and Mods to be sure it will be OK to start a fund raising thread. I or another Admin or Mod will let you guys know soon.
Our community always steps up when these things happen and I'm proud to be part of this family.
-
Sending all of my prayers and good thoughts, hoping for the best.

Sad news :(
-
This is a horrible thing to happen to such a young man. Guys NEVER take for granted the health you have. I am still recovering from a life changing illness and I know it will be difficult for Bryce to come to grips with the sudden lifestyle change. Come on prayer warriors keep Bryce and his family in your minds and prayers daily.
-
Terrible news, prayers sent!
-
An amazing Bowyer and sounds lIke a great guy. So unfortunate.
-
Wow, I don't have much time to spend online these days, but I opened up PA and.. saw this. Bryce is a really really good person. We had a great trade a few years back. Prayers sent.

+1
I never met him but he has been one of my favorite bowyers since I got here. He seems to be one of the most genuine people ever with a strong and kind spirit. I hope he understands that spirit and strength are in him no matter what limitations he has on his body.
You're in my prayers Bryce
-
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Bryce!
-
Our prayers going out for Bryce.

If someone wants to start a fund raising thread for Bryce here on PA it will be OK to do so. Please put it in "Around the Campfire".
-
I posted the fundraising link over around the campfire
-
I doubt most of you need it, ...but here is a reminder of the kind of person Bryce is and has been to this community...
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php?topic=56550.0
No one paid him to do this. He saw a problem. Thought of a way he could make it some better, ...and he took action on his own.

As a guy who spends a lot of time on ladders and scaffolds, it pains me to hear about such a bad fall. May he recover well.
A candle is lit and the sage is smoldering with his well being in mind.
-
thoughts and prayers, wishing for a quick and healthy recovery. so sad.
-
You guys are absolutely great.
So much support for a fellow member.
It makes me feel good to be a part of this forum.
Bryce, when you get around to reading this, know that we are praying for you and your family to have the strength to get through this.
-
Bryce is a skilled, creative bowyer - prayers for his recovery.
-
Thoughts and Prayers for Bryce and family.
-
I am beside myself right now. Hard to believe Bryce could be so badly injured. I have faith that Bryce's positivity and selfless nature will allow him to continue to live life to the fullest and make those around him better, regardless of how he leaves that hospital. Bryce, you are in our Prayers.
-
Spinal injury's are very bad, hopefully he fully recovers from this. :o
-
Prayers, Bryce.
-
I have been praying since I heard about it yesterday. I hope he makes a full recovery. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family
-
I was drawing one of his bows today he made for a friend of mine. Couldn't keep the tears out of my eyes. I expect we will be seeing a lot more of Bryce in the future, he has a great spirit and a lot of talent.
-
I told my dad to put Bryce on the prayer chain at church.
-
Sorry to hear about this. Hang in there Bryce. Best wishes for your recovery.
-
Time for an update. Details of accident? Prognosis? Progress?
-
Prayers sent to this Young Man.
May god help him and His family going through such a difficult time.
-
Gonna try a fund raiser. Check out Bobbyjoe maclean on facebook!thx's!

Prayers sent for strength to deal with such a horrible accident.
-
I am very sorry to read about Bryce, and also for his many good friends who are worried and concerned for his well-being.
My best wishes and strength to Bryce,
Ruddy.
-
I've never had the pleasure of meeting Bryce, but I consider him a friend in my PA family. It saddens me to hear this news. It shows just how fragile we are as humans.
Bryce, I want you to know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers until your back at your bow bench and flinging arrows again. I will also pray for the medical staff that is taking care of you. May God guide their hands and minds....
Patrick
-
Man...I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this. I just don't have the words. My family and I are praying and pulling for you and yours Bryce. Hang tough and stay positive my friend. Josh
-
Oh man, it made me sick to hear this, that queasy uneasy feeling in the pit of the stomach.
Hoping and praying for the best recovery possible, and also being open to the lessons and learning this will bring.
I have been sitting here trying to figure out how to help, so I decided to pull a primo yew stave out of my personal collection and auction it off. With all proceeds going to support Bryce.
So I posted a thread on the "campfire" page with a video of the stave. I will also send this out to my email lists and have posted it on facebook. I am curious to see what we can raise through this stave. I will also pay the shipping to anywhere in the world. So here is your chance.
Although we have never met, I can easily refer to Bryce as a friend, cause I can just tell we would get along great.
cheers,
Jamie MacDonald
-
Jamie that is a very fine thing to do! I will see what I can bid.

Here is some of what Bryce's sister had to say on facebook. "Bryce has been moved out of the Trauma ICU. Despite the initial prognosis, he has been having sensation in his legs, right leg more than left. The second surgery has been put on hold as the Dura (casing around the spinal cord) is mending itself. If the Dura mends completely on its own. Rehab begin within the next couple days. He is in utter awe at the outpouring of love, support and prayers. He said to tell each and everyone, "Thank you". "
I'm so glad to hear that there is hope to have feeling in his legs. I let you know if I find our anything else.
-
That is amazing that there is some sensaton! Not to jump too far ahead but that is great news.
Thanks for sharing
-
Thats great news waylin, thanks for the update. I'll keep praying.
Patrick
-
That's great news. I'm also auctioning off a bow set on Facebook and have had a lot of support so far. I'm hoping to raise a good chunk for the Ott family
-
Prayers lifted up.
-
Great news, Weylin! It seems like Doctors are quick to give the worst prognosis. When I broke my back they told my wife if I lived I'd probably never walk again. They need to have a little more faith in good thoughts, prayers and the person wanting to be whole again.
-
Wizardgoat can you pm the link to that auction?
-
Just on my Facebook bubbles, look up Ryan Gauthier
-
That is so great to hear Bryce has been on my mind since I heard. Such great news
-
Wow that sucks. If you guys have a fund raiser please post a link. Even though I do not know him Ive seen his work here, great work and seems like a very good person. I hope he recovers well and can join us quickly.
-
wow, glad to hear that there is some recovery.
-
Thanks for the update, Weylin. That is like fresh air rushing into my lungs. This has consumed me since I heard about it.
-
This is such a heartbreaker, but glad to hear some positive news on him. He's in our prayers.
-
Ditto what Pearl said. I continue to hope and pray for the best possible outcome. I would just like to say if ( and I certainly hope not) your recovery isn't complete please try to keep your sprite up. I have 2 really good friends who lost their ability to walk. When it first happened to them I thought I didn't know if I could live like that. It's been several years now and both of them live and enjoy life more than many people I know with everything they could posiblly wish for. One of them walks with a walker now. Gary who is still in wheelchair loves to hunt, and spends most of his summer thinning out the local groundhog population. If any of you watch Michigan Outdoors he should be on a upcoming episode, I think they'll probably film this week or next. I continue to pray for you, your family friends , and caregivers. Please try to keep your sprite up

He or somebody near him sent me a text last night, made me smile HUGE!
I was reading over his donation page on giveforward. I just had to smile when I seen all the archery related names in there, a damn lot of them. Tell me this community (most of us) aren't great people.
-
Yup there's a lot of recognizable names on the donation page, they haven't reached their goal yet guys sooo....
-
Best wishes for Pinecone. I pray that the universe helps you.
-
This has been eating at me ever since it first showed up in my Facebook newsfeed. I went to the fundraising sight and sent a bite out of my latest paycheck, but it still has been eating at me.
Bryce/Pinecone has consistently been one of the people on this site that always exemplifies the spirit that the moderators and administrators have busted their butts to establish. Namely, being supportive of others, reining in the critical tongue, giving and sharing FREELY of your own talent and time and materials, and just being a friend to one and all. Whereas on the other hand, I am, by nature, a vicious, snarky, smart mouth person that is better at tearing things down than I am at building them up. A young woman from Norway somehow saw some kernel of good in me and loved me once upon a time. When she died tragically, I decided that the person I was needed to die with her.
I wanna be like Bryce. And to that end, I am going home tonite and match up a set of arrows to a bow. I am going to put it up on my Facebook page on auction. Proceeds to go to his medical expenses, and I will cover the shipping.
I challenge everyone here to sell a Bow For Bryce!
-
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
-
I've been feeling the same way JW. The last bow I made (and finished up nice) might have been a trade bow for Bryce... I took out the bow he sent me last night and spent some time with it. You can feel the care he put into it, and the results showed on the target as well. My life is crazy right now (grad school, a week at a time away from the kids...), but I might just have to dust off the draw knife for Bryce.
Gabe

I am truly touched by everyone's support!
I don't even know what to say or how to say thanks you 😢
But this community has gone above and beyond anything I could of imagined.
Auctioning off bows and staves, I never even expected you guys to ever find out or even care.
Seriously have some tears rolling.
I'm not sure how often I will be on here but I start physical therapy either Friday or Monday.
But my brother and sister I guess made a Face Book page with almost daily updates.
Here's the link: https://m.facebook.com/BryceRecovery/
Iam still speechless and don't know how to give enough thanks and praise to you kind hearted guys.
Thank you all, for everything.
🌺With love, Bryce🏹

Good things happen to good people, dont be so suprised we have you covered :) It feels good to have you back even if its a little Brycey boy. Kick that PT right in the ass and get yourself back around man!
-
Just worry about healing Bryce, thats all we want😉
-
Really great to hear from you Bryce. Things sound kind of optimistic to me I continue to pray for you and your caregivers. It's good to be young you heal so much better.

Bryce bud you just worry about healing up and getting stronger. Don't worry about anything else. I'm praying for you and the medical team that is taking care of you.

Best of luck with the therapy and the recovery. It can be done.
-
It's good to hear from you Bryce. Good luck with the therapy.
-
Its very good to hear that you will be starting physical therapy. All you need to be doing is concentrating on getting your self better. We will continue with healing prayers for you and your family.
-
No pressure or anything but...... hey man, was wondering when we can start to see bows from you again? See if you van talk to your PT person and convince them that archery is great therapy. Id love to see it a prescription!
-
Glad to hear from you Bryce, we continue to pray for you and those caring for you. Keep your head up and I look forward to being able to shake hands with you one day.
-
Glad to hear things are looking up. I have said some prayers for you. You will be cranken those beautiful bows out again soon.
-
I opened my new copy of Primitive Archer the other day, that I'd likely not have re-subscribed to but for your influence and challenge, and right in the middle I find a FULL two page spread of your Bow of the Year! It seemed somehow fitting and yet melancholy at the same time! You do WONDERFUL work sir. Looking forward to hearing GREAT NEWS about your recovery as you work through the conditioning and healing your body needs now. Prayers for your healing...

Now that the doctors have done a sinew and hide glue patch, it is time to get re-tillered by the physical therapists.
I think it is time to drop the "Pinecone" designation from your username. You served your time with the nickname your niece tagged you with. Let it go. Especially because pinecones fall out of trees. You need to stop that.
I got the bow picked out, but I don't really have the arrows I need for it, so I have to finish those this weekend. Then it will be posted on my Facebook page and the bidding starts.
-
I dont do facebook JW can you keep an updated post on here as well?
-
Just seeing this now. Very thankful you are on your way to recovery Bryce. Prayer for healing.
-
My fundraiser is nearing 500 cdn dollars and I hope to double that!even if canadian dollar are like monopoly money!lol!
-
Don't really know you, but from the past few month's posts, and I was of course impressed by your generosity in the drawing in April.. I was horrified to read about the accident.. just wanted to say I truly pray for your recovery and for God to give you a peace that surpasses understanding everyday. As you heal physically may you be guided emotionally and spiritually as well.
-
Just wanted to fill everyone in knowing JW's auction. It's up to $400 if anyone can beat that.
-
i wanna see this stick!!! get me a link!!!....i dont deal with facebook!
please and thank you 8)
-
I'll have him start a topic.
-
I'm not sure how I missed this....Bryce, you are in our prayers and we hope for a speedy recovery.

A prior bidder jumped back in and high bid now stands at $450. Funny thing is, the guy doesn't give a rip about archery, hunting, or traditional skills. In fact, he and I are not exactly friends and he has no bloody idea who Bryce is or what Pinecone might be!!! I can only guess that the way I worded things on Facebook touched his heart...or Someone did. Get one thing straight, I ain't complaining!!!
-
i wanna see this stick!!! get me a link!!!....i dont deal with facebook!

It's just a red oak board bow with a lot of lipstick on the pig. 6', fake snake skinned, superglue soaked leather tip overlays of layered grey and black leather, simple sewn black leather grip. *yawn*
-
But its made by you!
-
But its made by you!
Shut your smart mouth, we are trying to RAISE money for Bryce, you fool!

But it is a fine example of a red oak bow despite who made it😈
-
That is why I bid on it! Who wouldn't want a JW original?
-
Bryce I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I did see you on Facebook and you look hopeful. Stay that way. Stay strong and know that you are in thousands of people's thoughts and prayers.

Oh no, sad and tragic.
I know those pains of a broken spine. In 2006 I broke my spine (L2 and L3) too when falling from the roof of a barn,
Worst time ever. Every move was pure pain and hopelessness.
It took me about 6 months to learn walking again and another 3 months to shoot a 15lbs- bow and another 3 months to get back in bow- making.
Best medicine was to begin physical therapy as soon as possible, as often as possible and to stay very close to my family and friends. My wife and my daughters and a great physical therapist gave me the final hope to get by with it.
About one year and a half I was back in bowery, bow- classes...........back in daily life, a long time but anyway a time I should not have missed. Life is precious.
I'll never be able to shoot a 50lbs+ - bow, to cut wood is aching, every 2-3 months I need some sessions with my physio but life goes on and I guess I enjoy it more.
All my best wishes for you and your family.
Michael

I had huge support for my bow raffle from my friends and family, we raised just over 1300$ (just over 1000 USD) for Bryces fund. I hope it helps ease some of the financial burden. Cheers!
