Title: Moccasins
Post by: mullet on May 19, 2016, 04:06:27 pm
Hey, Yosemite Ben asked me for a picture of my Poppen Moccasins and I figured I'd just start a thread and put all of mine on it.

Let's see yours; Maybe we can all get some different ideas looking at someone else's style.

I was going to get Debbie and I a pair when I was at the classic but, they weren't there this year.  I think John Ford got a pair last year ordered then they sent them
to him.  Those look good Eddie.

Thanks Aaron. Dave, I got fitted at the Classic and they were at my house a week after I got home. That's why I had to sell ten bows, the Moc's and Gator Permits showed up at the same time.

Love them Eddie, and I thought you only wore flip flops.  ;) :)I have a couple of pair, the high ones and the low ones, love them both , but really like the high one better though.  :)

That dark pair looks like they would do the job when bow hunting. Is the bottom as thick as it looks in the picture?

It's pretty thick JEB, I think it's pig skin if I am not mistaken at least mine are, very comfortable to wear in the wood, a little slick if you don't watch yourself but not as bad as you would think.  :)

Very nice Eddie. I made a pair for my wife, Tsa La Gi pucker toe style. have not finished them as of yet. Mostly detail work. I made them from her sandals as a surprise so they are a little big. Got to make more to stay in practice.

I have a pair of the high ones.  I put them on for the first time at this year's Classic.  My feet were getting sore in my boots.  The Poppens' were definitely the cure.  Even brand new, they fit like a glove and were like walking on air.  Was sad to miss them this year, I was going to get the "Little Woman" a pair and possibly a 2nd for myself.

Beadman the rough looking ones 0n the left I made about fifteen years ago, they are from a Seminole pattern, very easy to make. The two smoked ones on the left are Native made. I bought them in Northern Manitoba.Very light and comfortable.

Mullet....Yea your down there in swaneee land Florida the seminole were there.I kinda patterened mine after the sioux from South Dakota. They can last for years and years.I think sometimes little repair type kits were carried with them to fix mocs where holes were.
Your heavy duty pair there is a lot like my dyer mocs I bought.3/8" thick soles for sure but slick on the hillside like Pappy said earlier.....lol.Just when it's dry though.

Billy Bowleg was a Seminole Indian. The family is still around as far as I know. :o

Ed, the good thing about hunting in mine is at least down here I don't have to worry about sliding off of hillsides. I need two pair, one to hunt in while a pair is drying out. But, Pappy is right, when I hunt at Twin Oaks in the Fall it's like ice skating with them on.

Yep, Bowleg's Creek is ten miles south of where I live and the family is in the Glades giving Airboat rides and wrestling with gators.

Cool. Those heavy duty mocs like my dyers and yours there need to conform to a person's foot to be comfortable so when I got mine I walked in the creek a while to get them wet then wore them dry.Perfect fit now.

I wish I hadn't had them dyed dark brown, now. If I wear them without socks my toe nails are red for a week.
