Title: black locust for a friend
Post by: Hans H on May 16, 2016, 04:00:50 pm
Hello Folks,
I got a deal with a guy who works at the national forest: I get a few car trailors with bow wood and therefor I build a selfbow for him.
See what comes out:
Black Locust, statics,  length ttt 66“, width  40mm, thickness 12mm.
Draw- weight  36#  @ 26“, enjoy and tell me your thoughts please. I`ll appreciate, thanks

Nice bow Hans, the workmanship looks top notch. I like the color in that piece of locust, very pretty. Also like the back profile and the smooth flow at the transition from handle to the shoulders at the fades. Excellent bow.

That is a very nice looking bow. Do you bend the limbs with dry heat or steam them?
And is 12mm the thickness of the static tip portion of the limbs? I would really like to do this to my next black locust bow. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this one. Withe the length and the great tiller job that one would for sure pull to 28in.

SRS: the tips are steamed and the thickness of that are 14 mm, 12 mm are the limbs form fadeout til the tips.
Knapper, Patrick, Ryan, thank you for your Kind compliments
