Title: Osage, 40lbs, 28''
Post by: akila on March 25, 2016, 07:53:13 am
Hi guys, its been a long time since i'v posted here something, so here it is..my first Osage Bow. It is 66'' long, it weights 446 grams, it pulls 40lbs @ 28, and the bow has keept the same shape of the wood without any changes. THe wood had this reflex in the handle from the beginning, and thenn on one side, it was a litle deflexed, and on the other side, pretty straight, but with alots of up and downs. This is the limb , with the knot. This one was also quite tricky to tiller. I hat the tips flipped  up a little to compensate for that deflex, and thenn i did again on that limb with the knot, to be symmetrical. I also had to straighen one side, becose it was not straight, in order to have a centered string. It is not perfect on the middle of the Handle, but its like the bow would have a shooting window there. The tips overlay are from Buffalo horn, very slimm, and thinn as u will see in the pict. The draw is realy smooth, and all i can say, is that i'm in love with this wood. IT is exactly like everibody says..fantastic wood.

Sorry for the fulldraw pict, but its dificult to do this allone, and also dangerouse..with one hand holding the Phone, with the other the tiller string, etc..it takes to  much, untill i can catch a clear pict., and position..my hand is schacking, etc..crazy :). The bow was unfinished there on the tiller tree, but this is the final tiller of the bow. I was worried aboute that knot, so i made the bow slightly asymmetrical..the upper limb is a little longer, and it bends a little   more, and the lower limb stiffer. I havent seal the bow yet, and im thinkinh aboute using oil or something traditional. So, this is it..have a nice day guys, and thanks for waching..any critiqs, or opinions, ideeas, etc, please feel free to share it here..its the first time whenn i'm working with Osage, so...:)

Thats a very nice bow! Well done my friend. I have 2 mulberry billets waiting to be spliced. I might borrow this design from yor bow. How much setback did the stave had?

I can tell you put some time into the finish on this bow. Good job of tying it all together.

Thank you guys. Now wit the tips like this flipped, has the bow 7 cm reflex..so all most 3''..before doing that, the limb without any knot, hat only 1'' of reflex, and the llimb with the knot, had a little more. I dont know aboute the finish...i still havent decided..i like the iddeea of using also traditional stuff, like oil, or stuff like that, but i will see. Thank you all for your nice words.
