In 1995 I was doing a lot of FG bow hunting and I saw PA magazine in a drug store so I picked up a copy & got a subscription I read articles in there about the magic osage bows & chasing rings & such, well with 3 kids & 2 jobs I thought I would never have time to pursue the magic osage bow ,flash foward 20 years no kids at home ,no collage tuition to pay for I got the chance to do it today, ok I know not much of a life here but it was a thrill for me.
Best Regards Ritchie

Welcome to our addiction, Ritchie. Chasing an osage ring is therapeutic...once the sapwood is gone. I guess after removing sapwood the therapy is needed.
Looking forward to seeing your first osage bow from your first chased ring osage stave.

Stave 2 today learning real quick paper thin rings are a lot tuffer , left it wide on purpose noticed the edges get thin quick & the knots are harder on the thin rings.

Stick, have you got a good cabinet scraper? On thin ringed osage teh scraper will help you out a lot. I round off at least 2 corners of my scrapers for the concaved areas on the back.

Badger Yes I have just about every type of cabinet scraper from Stanley 80 type to all flat & concave ,convex ,scraper planes to handled paint scrapers , plus a dull semi rounded draw knief I turned into a scraper & hack saw blades I turned into custom scrapers & more I been trying them all to see what works best managed to get the thin ring down no violations ,got lucky !
