First time seeing both in one log, pretty stuf

Beautiful curly ambrosia!

If the wood didn't have the wormholes, flintlock builders would be doing double back flips to get their hands on wood with that much tight curl. A stock blank with that amount of tight curl would fetch $300 easily if the grain flow was correct through the wrist.

WOW what Eric said.
-
Knife scales wow
-
Nice ! Bob

300$ easily? They are going through the wrong people haha but I definitely believe it. Learning about this industry has been interesting, so chocked full of middle men all making a living it's crazy

What if you had it stabilized? wouldn't it be worth more than the standard curly?
-
I get curly all the time and the market is not consistent enough as of late to keep and then sell as curly so it just goes in with the standard grades, we have been selling wormy for the same price as our low grade but the low grade guy doesn't want it so we separate it to sell elsewhere.. I personally think the wormy is gorgeous and should be worth more. All comes down to what some one is willing to pay for it. I set these ones, about 35 board feet, aside and they are going in the kiln. Surely we can get a decent price on em to make it worth hanging onto. Better than $.40 a foot anyways
-
Have you tried for knife scales? I bet it could fetch a fair price there.
-
Have not.. The main thing is quantity. We keep some neat stuff here for walk-ins but otherwise we need to be able to sell a semi load of it. I do wish we were a concentration yard that was searching out the niche markets and maximizing the profit off each board just for utilizing what we have, but with our set up churning out more for less works better

You guys are killing me... No knife scales, that's got turkey calls and deer grunt calls written all over. You don't want that crap, just send it to me.

It might be worth an email or two sent out to specialty suppliers(knives or wood turners). Both parties might make out like bandits. Flat rate shipping is great for cut up wood blanks.

Yeah, I've got it in the kiln at work, no one lined up to get any yet

As a turner, can confirm, this stuff looks like fun.
