Title: Scotch eggs
Post by: tattoo dave on March 06, 2016, 08:41:07 pm
Who knows what I'm talking about?? They make the best hunting camp breakfast.

I was in Indianapolis last week and found some on the appetizer menu at an Irish pub downtown. I may have to make some for the spring turkey trip.

I have spent years looking for scotch eggs, but I never see them in any of the seed catalogs.  I would love to start my own scotch plant.

They are definitely NOW on the menu for camp!!!

Hooray for scotch eggs! My wife makes them for very special occasions.  I am still trying to convince her (and my doctor) that Sunday Morning qualifies as special enough.

They rock.

Hey Stoker!  I serve Eggs Benedict on an old hubcap.  Why?  Because there is no place like chrome for the hollandaise!

Sounds JW, I can bring some with me or we can make them there. It's one of my favorite breakfast foods to pull out of the back pack while waiting for that big tom turkey to come in.

You are hereby "volun-told" for KP duty for the morning of "scotch eggs" for breakfast.  We'll crank 'em out for the gang and they shall be suitably impressed and equally saddened that they did not learn of these delights earlier in their lives!

Don't forget armadillo eggs, I take a jalapeno pepper, you can ise a pablano if the other is too hot for you, stuff with any cheese you want even cream cheese, wrap it in sausage like a scotch egg and wrap with bacon and cook till the sausage is done, these things are addicting

Oh yeah!  I should be able to kill Soy by feeding these to him until he bursts!

Oh man I love Scotch Eggs!  When my hens are laying too many eggs for me to easily eat and sell, I make a big batch of Scotch Eggs, but I bake them in the oven instead of deep frying.  I also make my own "sausage" by using ground up pork and adding herbs in.

Also don't know if any of you have tried steaming your eggs instead of boiling them, but I've been doing that since fresh out of the hen eggs peel badly, but when steamed I can crack the shell right off even when they're still hot!  Also noticed the yolk is softer and fluffier for some reason when they're steamed.

I just tried a new recipe last night and it is now on the menu for dinner in camp...Monroe County Kentucky Hot Chops!  It's a char-grilled pork chop mopped generously with a sauce made of vinegar, cayenne, and butter.

Cut a pocket in those chops and stuff them with chopped jalapenos and some greens and some hard cheese that won't just turn to molten lava, with that mop on it man o man!!

I made em, soft cooked, for the fellas at bird camp just this morning.  Should've gotten a pic.  Mouthwatering, but I only eat breaded and deep fried sausage when I'm gonna walk behind a dog all day or my belt gets angry with me.
