Does maple like heat or steam?

Agreed.  You could make little corrections with dry heat, but steam or boiling for most things.

And heat treating improves maple a lot.

I just took out some twist and reflexed a piece of Maple with dry heat and it worked well.

I have bent dry sugar Maple [eastern rock hard maple] with a heat gun like bubble gum   ???  steam is a myth

Off topic ..........board material not a problem albeit 1/4" thick.
