I saw these Great Blue Herons chasing a hawk the other day.
Then I saw one flying high with a big stick in it's beak.
I searched around and this is what I found.
Truly amazing.

Nice. There is blue heron nesting site like that a few miles from here also. Or at least there was. The road you could see it from was an old strip mine road. The land was leased for hunting a few years ago and the road closed off. But I would bet it's still being used. Last time I was through there, there were at least 6 nests in about 100 yards.

First off awesome pics. Herons are cool to watch. There is one in view of where I park to work it's nest is on a cell tower. when I saw the thread title I immediately thought of the Jim Croce song. "All the downtown ladies call him tree top lover, all the men just call him sir" Bad Bad Leroy Brown.

Yep! Everyday life living in Florida. I've guided people from out of state Turkey hunting that have never heard woods as noisy as ours early in the morning from all of the birds we have.

Fantastic post and pics. I always think Herons are messengers of the gods and that seeing one is like an omen (dunno what of tho!?)
So seeing a bunch nesting like that must be heap big medicine! :D

They seem to prefer the pine tree around here as well. Nice pics. Don

LOL He got a custom Continental an Eldorado too, a 32 gun in his pocket for fun and a razor in his shoe.
The birds are magnificent and I hope they bring good Ju-ju toall.
I have a few video clips if anyone is interested. PM a email add.
