Two new bow….or rather, not quite new, but newly finished;-).
Prune (Prunus cerasifera):
On this bow I tried to do a stretched Hjarnø design, with soft shoulders and a hint of bend in the “levers”. One limb (upper) it has several knots that add some character one of which is located in the lever part of the limb (that one was a challenge).
Length: 69,5”
Pull: 50# @28”
Nocks: Laburnum
Handle: Simple leather wrap with a small build in rest
Wych Elm:
Pretty much a simple pyramid flatbow. This bow is very light for some reason (441 gram/15,55 oz, with handle wrap), and a very smooth shooter. The inner bark was left on as I do on most of my winter cut elm.
Length: 66”
Pull: 42# @28”
Nocks: Elm inner bark wrap on (wood glue impregnated)
Handle: Simple leather wrap with a small build in rest

Very nice bows! Love the handle coverings too. Jawge
-
Very cool bows!
-
Nice, both of 'em. The profile and character of the prune makes it really stand out as unique but that elm is no slouch by any means either. Two fine bows.
-
Great looking bows !! Nice job.. I really like the knot in the prune.
-
i missed these. real nice stix sir.
-
Excellent! Prunus=prune=plum. So many species from that family seem to make good bows, including many of the wild cherries.
-
thanks for posting, I have always like your interpretations? of the historical finds, and these have not disappointed.
-
2 nice bows, great job
-
Holten I always like your bows. The elm is a nice bow but you know I gotta pic the Hjarno bow ;)
-
Thanks for all the kind words (and lets face .....the attention;-).
I haven't been active in her for a while, simply because I tend to look at my bows and think..."hmm, didn't I post something like this before". Anyways...it feels good to be back:-). I have a new Hjarnø finished that i will post soon, and a brand new ref/def yew in the works (still touch and go on that one).
Cheers:-)

I've got some prunus seasoning, really looking forward to working it having seen how yours turned out!
-
Nice couple of bows there. I really like the plum. Great job
-
Looks like two shooters to me.I personally like the elms resting profile the best and bet it's your best shooter. The prune has so much character and length you can't help but like it.Nice job on both though.Finding prune that wide I don't think happens too often.Look forward to seeing your next bow.

I love the look of those two simple and really cool bows! :)
