I have been working on this bow some weeks,, months???,,
I finally have the bow tillered to 56#@25 inches and it is shooting well
the bow is 55 inches nock to nock
the art is in progress,, when I finish I will post the full draw and braced photo
I am thinking I will put some overlays,, and maybe a handle
I was going to put deer hide on the back and do the art on that,( I have done that before) but I am impatient and decided to try it on the sinew,, I have a turkey hunt coming up and want to get the bow finished for that :)
I have added more pics ,, full draw and braced,, the art is finished now

That is looking excellent. Can't wait to see it all come together.
-
Wow, I love that.
-
Man that is cool don't lay it down in the woods you will loose it.
-
Nice!
Brad, I remember an old issue of PA magazine that had a bow pictured with similar oak leaf pen and ink art work on it laying by a fork horn buck, was that you? Seems like that was quite a few years ago and if I dug around I could probably find that issue somewhere since I don't think I've ever thrown any of the magazines away. I remember the bow, the art work really made an impression on me and I looked at it often for some time.
-
WOW! that is way to cool!
-
Wow, you have done an excellent job on that so far, can't wait to see it finished up. Is that pen and ink?
-
Nice Brad, I didn't know you had that artistic ability.
-
Gonna be quite the eye-catcher. Congrats!
-
Awsome art work realy like the mild tapper handle area Inspiring !
-
Nice work Brad. I remember another one like that you did a few years ago.
-
Great looking bow. Love the art work.
-
Can't get much more camouflaged than that!!
-
Very nice bow, Brad.
I like the unbraced side and the front profile very much, can't wait to see that beauty braced.
And your artwork is outstanding! I know you said it is ment to be continued, but I like that faded look too.

thanks guys for the positive comments, to tell you the truth, I hadn't done one like that in quite a while, I felt a bit rusty,, I started on the handle that I could cover with leather just to get loosened up,, so your comments are quite inspiring,, and I hope to finish it up soon,,
Badly Bent, I am pretty sure that is my bow you are speaking of in the PA,,if you do find it let me know what the date is,,, maybe I can order a copy,, I don't know if they go that far back :)
Aaron, yes it is pen and ink,, it is an art pen called Micron and it is the 05 size,, it says the ink is archival,,
good eye Simson,, you are right ,,vignette toward the tips would look very nice,, and I could probably do a bit of that at this point in the process,,again thanks to everyone that commented,, if you have any technical questions as to mediums and such, I am pleased to share any detail that might help you with a similar project,, :)
Stick Bender,,, I have come to favor that handle, mild taper,, it gives me the option to make the bow bend in the handle or not,, depending on how deep I leave it,, and they shoot well for me,, it gives the bow an overall graceful appearance,,

I like that design for the back. Unique.
-
Wow doing a good job!
-
Very cool!
-
I have seen your bows in the past. You are a true artisan. John
-
That is very cool. Beautiful work!
-
Brad, I'll look for that back issue this weekend. If I find it I'll pm ya and put it in the mail your way, may be a little tattered and dusty though. :)
-
Very nice work! Should make a great hunting bow when finished.
-
Nicely done . Arvin
-
Very nice work, Brad!
-
here are some pics with better lighting

you can see a slight gull wing from the back set induced into the handle,,also in the full draw the bow looks a little stiff out of the handle,, the back set is at least part of that,,I really struggled with how much to make that bend out of the handle and gave it much consideration,,

the bow has a slight twist,, the string lines up well,, and it shoots well with either limb up,,I plan to shoot it some more and see ifthe the real top limb will reveal itself,, I am posting two money shots,, one with the "top" limb up and the other with the bottom limb up,, I still want to put dark horn overlays and some kind of handle, but since this bow is for me,, it is taking me too long to decide what to do,, so I wanted to share the photos I have so far,, as I don't know how long it will take me to do the final detail work :)
in the full draw,, the top limb looks a bit funky,, and the bottom pretty good,, then I turn the bow upside down, now the bottom limb that looked good is a bit funky,, so I am calling it done,, I shot through the chrono and it would hit mid 170's with 500 grain arrow,, I am hoping that will kill a turkey :),, I am still at 25 inches of draw,, with the option to go longer if needed, when I shot the bow today,, it had perfect arrow flight,,so I am on hold till I shoot it a bit more,,it never really gets easy for me,, the more I know and the better I see,, its seems to get more and more difficult :) thank you all again for the positive comments,, and I wish everyone the best on your bow making projects,,

Bras that a beautiful bow, the artwork is steelar. I remember watchin you on a huntin show some years back. You were an influence than and still are today.thank you sir.
-
Very cool bow Brad. Everything about it is cool. She'll make a great turkey bow.
-
Nice piece of osage.Shows you like detail. Those turkeys got great eyes.Marry up to it shooting it a lot and look out turkeys. What spine arrows you shooting?
-
Fantastic
-
Looks like B50 for a string?
-
thank you Sixstones, means alot that you remember those shows in a positive way,, I really tried to represent traditional archers in the most positive way
thanks Pat B,, I hope the turkeys think its cool :)
Beadman,, I am shooting 55-60 out of it,,I have shot some birch, cedar, and sitka spruce, it does not seem to be finicky at all,
I am drawing 25 inches, but the arrows are 28 to 30,, I think the longer arrows are a little more forgiving for me,, my release is not always the best,,it will shoot the 60 65 cut to 28,,as well,, I usually shoot alot of different arrows and see what the bow likes the best, and put my broad heads on that for hunt,,so I am experimenting as I shoot the bow in,, its all fun, :)I definitely need to marry up to it, and just shoot it for a while,, need to become one with that bow to kill a turkey,,
yes that is my b 50 string,, in the pics,, I did shoot it with a fast flight string too, and it shot well,, I just couldn't find that string when I took the photos :) somehow things get lost even though I haven't left the room,, I think I am getting old :)
Red Tail Hawk, thanks for the positive input,, I am still thinking on handle and overlays,, but think I will just shoot it a bit and hope it "comes to me"
-
Wow... Very nice work sir.

The mid limbs are probably bending about as much as you would want.
Personally i'd work into the handle a bit, you could run a gizmo along the belly moving towards the handle to help you decide where to take a bit of meat off if you weren't sure. 27inch should be do'able.
-
Tiller looks good to me , and it shoots good for you ,sweeet.
the art work is above and beyond
Go kill your turkey
Have fun
-
Mikekeswick,,I think you are right
the backset in then handle has been tricky for me
I have not put finish on the belly so my option is open for that, thanks for your input,,
I am at a cross roads,, I am not sure if I want to loose any weight at the 25 inch draw,,,maybe a nice compromise would be to take some off into the handle and just go to 26 to keep the weight,,
thanks Buckeye and and Onebowonder,,it is shooting really great,, so I am not sure if I will how much tweaking I may do,, it is holding a nice unbraced profile,,if I want to go to 27,, taking off into the handle would be where I would start,,thanks again for the positive input everyone,, B
-
Brad I don't think you will lose much getting the handle and fades moving a bit more. It will make the sinew work harder and keep your mid limbs in better shape for the long haul.
-
thanks Pearl,, I started taking off some there yesterday,,If I loose a bit its ok, I was just getting neurotic,,and thinking way to much about it,, :)
-
very nice, I really like your bow,..and also the artwork, very tastefull
