I got this stave from a friend. It didn't have enough heartwood to make a bow so I decided to try a sapwood backed Osage. It's 48@28 65". The tips are olive wood my mom brought back from Israel in the early 80s. It shoots pretty good. I want to give a special thanks to Pearl Drums for coaching me thru this one. He suffered thru many text messages and pics! Thanks for posting these pics and for all your help Chris, I really appreciate it:)

My that's a pretty bow
-
Very pretty! The olive wood tip overlays really are showy!!! - OneBow
-
Thats a peach! Love the overlays, nice work.
-
looks sweet. Love the olive wood tips. So how does it compare in your mind to a heartwood osage?
-
Gaur, of the 3 Osage I've made I don't feel any difference so far. I don't have much experience as a Bowyer though so take it for what it's worth.
-
Good lookin' bow, Steve. Those tips are super cool!!
imo & based on personal experience . . . . . Chris, as well as several others on here, are good coaches. And, just as importantly, having the patience of Job!
-
Really nice!
-
Great job on the bow. The color contrast should look great as that osage darkens up.
-
Looks awesome. Great job.
-
Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.

-
nice work steve, great looking bow...the olive wood tips are sweet!
-
That's a great looking bow, I have been wanting to try an Osage sapwood bow for quite a while now, maybe I should get started. And don't worry, you'll get that picture thing
-
Thats a looker.
-
Nice bow and the lamination look too.
-
Everybody already said it all and I agree.
Was the sapwood sealed and intact from under the bark or did you chase down? Will the sapwood hold up to being stored in a moist area about like most whitewoods?
Thanks for posting.

I really like the tips and handle. Nice work!
-
Thanks again everyone. DuBois, It was an intact ring so I didn't have to chase it. As far as storing it I would assume if it's kept inside out of the weather and sealed it would be fine but I really couldn't say for sure. This is only the 6th bow I've ever made so I have very little experience to draw from.
-
Great looking weapon.
-
Nice looking bow, Steve. I especially like your tip overlays.
-
This is just an incredibly beautiful bow, and certainly opens up the train of thought re sapwood backing for me. I have a couple of Yew bows from James Rempp and a sapwood back is just beautiful......can't wait to try it. Like you, I'm still in my first year of self bow building. If you don't mind my asking......did you burnish the sapwood and what did you use as a sealer/finish?
-
Green, I considered burnishing but the back had so many dips, dives and crannies I knew I couldn't easily get the whole surface so I didn't bother with it. I used Formbys Tung Oil Finish, then Lundmark Carnuba wax.
-
Thanks Steve. Good luck with that beauty!
-
Good job Steve and Pearly
-
Nice looking bow. I like how the tips turned out.
-
Well done, guys!
The colors are nice, I like the heart/sapwood combo
