Title: Moon rings
Post by: jeffp51 on January 28, 2016, 09:30:49 pm
I have heard of such of thing (TBB, maybe?)  but I am working my first stave that seems to have them.  Big fat growth rings in an osage stave that I thought I would be able to chase with my eyes closed.  But when I get into it, there seems to be sub-rings in the main growth ring--and it feels near impossible to stay within one of them, especially around a knot.  Anyone have experience with something like this?

They were a hot topic in summer 2014

They are real but they aren't a problem unless you are trying to chase one of them instead of the actual early growth zone.
