I was wondering if there was going to be a trade this year?
-
I think the last one just completed last week with the last make up bow
-
Oh ok. I hope we have on this year its always my favorite project of the year and it pushed me to put out some of my best work.
-

I think it did you a lot of good that first year, for sure. Even if you did go dark and silent and near gave me the fits! >:D
-
I'm not in a position to volunteer from both continued technology failure and my shortcomings in the last trade. I think there really was a reason there aren't many repeat officiators, though if I could I'd help again. I've got three times as many bows on order too so if there is a trade I'm most likely to watch.
-
I think there really was a reason there aren't many repeat officiators...
Not to put too fine a point on it, but yes.
-
It's a shame. The trades have been fun . Hard to believe how some people don't stand up to there word.
-
I'd be honored to host one so I'll volunteer my services.
-
A while back Mullet had threatened to run the trade this year and firmly hold defaulter's feet to the fire, too.
-
I think it starts in spring doesnt it? Its a little early yet.
-
Usually as soon as the Christmas trade is done.
-
Usually as soon as the Christmas trade is done.
No i ment when it starts, not when it ends.
-
I'm definitely in. If I'm allowed that is O:)
-
Im in too!!!!if there is one >:D
-
I have already started on mine. Maybe this time i can ship first instead of almost last.
-
I am in and have started mine too. Not much else to do when it is -20 outside. All I need is my victim so I can know draw length and weight.
-
You will get much greater reward taking a new bow and giving it to somebody closer to you. Maybe a co-worker, a store owner, a friend, family, fellow parishioner, anything. Give it to somebody you know personally and will use it and appreciate it. After all, its all about giving.........right? Why give a bow to somebody that can make their own already? Surprise somebody.
-
For some it may be a better way to do it like you say. I guess it depends on why we are in it. Me, the surprise is fun of what im getting. Kinda simple thinking it its true. The other thing is it is an excuse for me to make a bow, more specifically, to someone's exact stats and work a piece with that goal in mind. I enjoy the challenge. I also like seeing how others have done the same challenge to my stats. Not to mention i dont ever keep any of my nice bows around that I make, selling them helps pay bills for me. Having a nice bow from someone else is a nice feeling. I am a very very proud ownder of one of J05hs' bows and would likely never own it if not for the trade. No to mention i got to meet him and he is a swell guy. The bow trade isnt just about the bow..... For me anyway.

What Pearl Drums said
-
Well,, Ryan, "Wizard goat", PM'd me about the 2016 trade. I think it might be in the works, and "invitational".
-
Is it each person who is invited invites someone they trust?
-
I'd like to get in on a trade this year. I'm finally confident enough in my work to send it off to someone.

I spoke too soon. I guess I am not in yet. 😀
-
How exactly would an invitational bow trade work? I would be honored if included, and not at all offended if not. I do hope to see lots and lots of pictures. I like to see other people's work.
-
Jeff you would be invited, that's sure. Its simple. Eddie, just for example, would run his swap. He would talk around and look around and invite guys that can make a bow and have balls enough to follow through on their obligation, NO EXCUSES. For example: "Paulsemp" falls at work and breaks his leg in two places, its bad. Guess what? You WILL have a bow from him, it will be new and it will be from his hands and on-time. Pretty easy really, but every year both rules get blown up.
-
How are/were the givers and receivers selected? I haven't followed these trades.
-
Names are "put in a hat" and drawn out. You get who you get.
-
For an invite trade, I would participate, if I get honored with an invite. If not, no hard feelings. I'll still love you guys.
Russ
-
I hope I get an invite but if not I understand.
-
Last year I was thinking of participating this year but that was before things blew up. Now I'm not so sure
-
Marc, i'm sure with your master bowyer reputation your participation would surely raise interest in this year's bow trade.i'm. Sure anyone would be delighted to own one of your's!
-
Im on the fence too but i am leaning torwards going for it. Enough to have already started. It really depends on who else joins in.
Screw it, if i get the invite i will be in.
-
i think the trade is a great idea, but don't think i'm there yet with my skill set. so have fun boys, can't wait to see what y'all do.
-
I would like to be a part of this again, but watching last years events unravel ..., I wish there was a way to make sure all obligations are filled in a timely fashion- Hammertime
-
I'd like to give it a go! I'll do my very best!
-
I'm still waiting to here back from Ryan. The way I'm seeing it is anybody in the past that has been slow sending a bow, or didn't send one at all after receiving one or by their posts have very little experience, unless good references from someone I know and trust, would not get an invitation. But, like I said, I'm waiting to here back from Ryan to see what his ideas are.
-
Might be a few days. He and wife are taking a vacay out on the coast.
-
Trying to get in one last vacation before that baby comes!
-
Well last year I think some people joined that shouldn't have. It was what it was. But I don't think we should let it ruin the spirit of the trade
-
If the inviters saw fit and were to invite me, I would be honored to join in.
-
I told Ryan I'd help, whether it's called the Bow Trade 2016 and run by someone else or the Invitational Trade and run by Ryan is up to him and the rest of you guys.
-
Im back from our get away, Aarons right, our last little vacation before Jr arrives :D
The "invitational" idea was brought up for a few reasons, the main one, to be brutally honest, to weed out the slackers, and those who are probably not ready yet.
Of course, the spirit of the trade is to make the best bow you can for someone, and most of all, to have fun.
Really, that should go without saying. An entry shouldnt need motivation or need to promise to make the best bow they can.
They should already be a hot blooded bowyer who can make great/amazing bows.
The idea was that if you are invited, you can in turn invite someone else, (or more)
This isnt meant to exclude new guys, heck, Im a new guy!
Id love to see some interest from some of PA regulars, whose view of the trade has been tainted from previous years.
None of this is set in stone, and still open for suggestions.
If im going to head it with the Mullet, invitational is the only way Id do it.
If someone else was game to run it the way its been run in the past, than thats great too :)
-
Sounds like a plan ryan! 8)
-
hopefully I get invited i can't post much during the year cause I'm a away at school but i have for filed my end of the trade two years in row with bows that i was very proud. so hopefully i get an invite but if the powers at be decide not to i understand
-
Well I have an osage I put release deflex into. And I am making tip overlays right now and I have the osage floor tillered . Could be a trade bow if there is going to be a trade
-
Should say deflex reflex . Not release
-

If not id love to trade with you!
-
I think I'd like to get in on this bow trade. I haven't built a bow in over a year so maybe this will get me off my arse and get something done. ;D
-
i would like to get in on this trade too, just please dont pick pat b for me ,, he has been out of building practice for some time now :o ::)
-
If not id love to trade with you!
Maybe we will :^)
-
I think Wizardgoat and whoever wants to help him should give the invitational approach a try, and see what happens. I like watching the pictures come in on this, when everyone is putting in their best effort.
-
I want an invitation. I've got a couple in the works ATM.
-
It's underway Jeff. It's not meant to be a side swipe, its simply a much bigger "2 man" swap with close friends.
I'd suggest somebody grab the reigns on the open/public swap if they want it to happen.
-
"all ready underway".....an "in-crowd" swap, not public.....wow
rich
-
I never said in crowd Rich, don't put text in my typing, please. Is it a problem for a group of close friends to swap bows in the same manner the public swap is held? Should we have taken a PA vote to see if it was okay for us to do that? No.
I will make public what I chose to make public, not what you or anybody else thinks I need to make public.
-
Pearl, you have been a little on edge lately in your text. You doin ok buddy?
-
Yup, it's underway, and it's not the "2016 bow trade".
If you Rich, or someone else wants to run the open trade like past years they can.
-
Pearly speaks the hard truth in my opinion, some guys just don't like to hear it
-
I'm confused. Did something new just start or did something old just die? ...or both maybe?
OneBow
-
Well thats fine, I just feel as if he was being more abrasive than typical for him. And, I didnt read what halfeye said as if he was mis quoting pearl. I took it as if was using the quotes to emphasize the incrowd part. Its clear pearl didnt say that. I dont think that fact is lost on halfeye. And over on another thread pearl was kind of abrasive towards a newer kid over his preference on a pvc bow. Its not uncommon for pearl to speak his mind, as is of course his right, but I am just observing how I felt reading what he wrote and how it must be interpreted by others, especially those who dont know him.
-
Pearl, you have been a little on edge lately in your text. You doin ok buddy?
Not at all sleek. But my life outside here has nothing to do with this. I was TRYING to get the public swap prompted and not keep guys waiting around for something else to happen.

Hopefully something new started and the old continues. Time will tell.

Ok, well, I guess I understand.

It's simple man. A small group of close friends are doing their own version of a swap. Some don't like that. Frankly? I COULD GIVE A SHEET about "some". There is no reason a 2016 PA Bow swap cant happen. Nobody ever said that.
-
It might be better to start a more specific thread for the invitational and let the typical bow trade happen as usual on here. It appears that there is more than enough people interested for someone to host it.
And while some folks can get offended at their own turd color, most folks should be able to understand that this is just a bunch of friends creating something for the PA folks to watch unfold. Not a comprehensive list of the elite crowd, or an exclusive list reserved for the "__________", just friends sharing their talents.
-
I'm on it guys, what we've been working on will be made public very shortly.
-
Best of luck to both trades ;)
-
It might be better to start a more specific thread for the invitational
or perhaps conduct the private trades by email or PM?

Thats the way I would go about it.

This seems like a perfectly cordial post, i don't see how it can be perceived any other way
-
It wasnt perceived any other way bubby, not from my understanding. I think Half eye is just amazed it is to be an " in crowd }" swap instead of the normal one. I think it is being worked out still so that may be a premature comment on his part, but we will see.
-
I have yet to figure out what an "In Crowd" is? I wasn't going to get in the Open trade this year as I know a lot of people on the 1st Invitational list were not either. So, the no do'ers decided to have a personal swap with people we know and most of us have met.
This in no way stops anybody from doing the Bow Swap, have at it. After doing it four times and receiving a bow from my drawn sender once and what went on last year I was done with it. You guys forget that when the trades go south that the Moderators and Admin's get the emails and PM's non stop to please straighten this mess out.
So, start the 2016 Bow Trade and make it work this time. The 1st Invitational is something new we are trying, who knows, it might be a disaster, but it is something new and different.
-
:D I think it's great and hope to see some of the most amazing bows ever made by PA members. I'm hoping PA Magazine will do a follow up and interview with all of you involved. Be a hell of an issue and a + for the news stands and PA community.
-
Thank you, Fred, I'm looking forward to seeing the bows made and Ryan wants to write an article for the magazine when it's all over. Might pay for a few, new diapers.
-
If not id love to trade with you!
Maybe we will :^)
Hey bob, since i didnt see your name on the list for the invite, wanna work out a trade? If not thats cool too.
Perhaps the above should be how this year is done. One on one.
-
I think the disconnect came when the public discussion of the private swap took over the open swap thread.
-
I think you're right JW
I was just reading through the pages and was kinda shocked when I read It's already under way all of a sudden.

Sounds good to me sleek. I would be honored to add one of your bows to my collection. . Let's get started.
