Title: Painting bow back before adding rawhide?

Just as titled...anybody do this?  I thought it might give the rawhide a different hue after staining?

People stain before snakeskinning. The trouble with gluing over paint is that the paint to wood surface becomes your actual joint between the backing and wood.
