Title: Kentucky Osage
Post by: nclonghunter on January 07, 2016, 11:13:21 am
My Daughter worked out a deal with a guy in Kentucky for an Osage log. Drove up yesterday and picked it up. I took a Keokuk blade, deer leg handled knife that was secured with pine pitch and sinew and figured if it was a good log I would gift the fellow the knife. It is a great log and he got a knife. Also turned out that his Dad and him collect artifacts and I think he was pretty happy getting the knife. I got up early and started splitting it. It split straight as an arrow and gave me 8 staves. Worth the effort I think.

It's not primitive or traditional to gift something in exchange. It's traditional to "give" it. >:D

Wasnt trying to make claims of traditional or primitive. The deal was done and after it was done is when the knife was gifted. I would have recieved the log without the gift. Not certain why this even came up but thanks for the input.

That's a great find and a nice gesture.  I'm hoping to get my hands on some yellow wood over the winter.

Totally missed my point. The traditional and correct word is GIVE, as a verb. GIFT is a noun.

Asharrow, You are correct. Two sides to every coin and I saw only one. I can see what you were saying and I openly apologize for miss reading it.
