This question has probably been asked many times but I could not find much information when searching so....What criteria determine the location of an arrow shelf, and do things vary with bow type: e.g. longbow, recurve, r/d; grip type: e.g. high wrist , low wrist; draw type: e.g. 2split, 3 under... etc. etc.?

Red, There are different schools of thought on this subject. One way is to mark your center line, go up 1 1/4" above that and make a mark and go down 2 3/4" below and make a mark. This will give you a 4" handle and the arrow pass will be at the top line. Pat

Pat....I prefer to make my Bows center shot.....I Shoot off my knuckle.....there may be some disadvantages to this way....but I have not encountered any....Most Native Bows were built this way...and it seemed to work well for them!!

This may help you get a handle on it.

Of late I've varied the 1.25 rule to suit the tiller. Jawge

I usually put the center of the bow where the web between my index finger and thumb fit. I htin put the shelf right above that. Steve

Most of the time I do the same as badger, but I shoot the bow and find the best balance spot for the tiller before I cut, or glue on a arrow shelf.

I do the same as Badger and Ryano.
