I'm going to back a very light weight 15-20# selfbow with some duct tape. Well I should say I want to attempt to back it. I was going to just use some spray tack adhesive and then lay the duct tape over it. It's for my gf little boy who lives and dies by the golden macaroni...just thought it would be fun for him.

I also have some birch bark I may use as an accent piece on the tips and maybe the handle. I need to look into Google and see just how to apply that as well.
-
Considering the kid and the pattern, I would say it is a brilliant idea!
-
nice idea,, :)

You can do anything, you should try PVC bows. >:D
-
Pvc!!! Another round of blasphemy! >:D
Haha...just kidding. Ever since I've watched some of backyard bowyers stuff I have always wanted to try one.
-
Ive done the pvc thing. Heat slowly and dont force the squish or the pipe kind of separates on the edges. Youll figure it out fast. Cheap easy way for some fun

I'm giving his bow a straightening thru the handle. I will post picks when it's straightened out. I'm not sure what kind of would it is. I think it's ash but I cut it in the winter and all I knew was that the tree was straight :P

Kids and bows go well together. Nice gesture! Jawge

Maybe I will try it wonder if I can get that tape in pepperoni pizza ? Seriously it sounds like it would work ,duct tape is strong stuff .
-
I'm doing it just for the aesthetics but I'm sure they have a pizza one too.....hell I KNOW they have a bacon one!

one year i had a mess of old lath boards. now most times lath is pine, but some of that old stuff is oak. i pulled it off a wall in a house that was well over a hundred years old! anyhow i took any straight grain boards i could find, titebond glued drywall tape to the backs, a little belt sanding later ...every kid in the family had a fun bow to shoot. them kids grew up. theres still 5 or 6 of them bows making rounds through the families! This is the bow I had posted on backing with the mac n cheese duct tape. I believe it to be ash but im really not sure. Its 56" ttt and 20# at 18". This was a really funky stave. It was heavily deflexed on one side from mid limb out and just slightly reflexed on the other limb. I had to steam the handle in order to get the tips to line up and it worked like a charm. Im going to try and finish the bow up for xmas. Heres a couple shots of the bow prior to finishing.

Well the tape didn't work out great. Wrinkled up on me when I sealed it up with spray on laquer. I will post some finished pics a little later. Merry xmas to everybody.

The tape was a flop. The knots and irregularities on the back of the bow make it difficult for the tape to conform to and I kept getting bubbles. Tries poking em with a pin and lightly hitting it with a heat gun, but I was getting some light discoloration. Sealing it up with an aerosol made it worse. So I opted to remove the tape and put a little artwork on the back. I posted a pic of the tape before I removed it. I still need to get a string for the bow. There might be a spongebob drawn on the belly somewhere when all is said in done just to personalize it a little for him.
