Title: How did elm bows of the past look ?
Post by: dkrotenberg on November 27, 2015, 01:06:36 pm
From written sources it is clear that elm was a common bowwood, from viking age, and through the middle ages, but how did these bows look ?

I am looking for links to info, prefferably pic`s

I am especially curious about cross sections, indications of handle sections, and nock types.

Jeremy and Alastair did a really nice write up of the wych elm bow found on the Mary Rose.  Their PDF article is available on the Warbow Wales website with lots of photos etc of the bow itself.

Edit: These are mostly Mollegabet and other prehistoric bows. Didn't realize this was in the English Warbow forum...

??

Seems hard to find information on the Møllegabet bow artifact. Can't really find anything besides that post... Guess it was elm?

Also found this, page 17/18
