A friend of mine is a full time Luthier, and makes amazing stringed instruments.
A while backed I asked what he thought about making me a bow wood guitar,
and while he was a little hesitant to use woods he was unfamiliar with, he was into it.
Its essentially a PRS custom 24, my favourite guitar,
We found some nice yew boards, and he used some hickory, white ash, and a bit of black walnut and rocky mountain juniper.
The osage in the neck and headstock is from Gun Doc, and I believe its from 60+ year old fence posts his Grampa cut, correct me if I'm wrong Josh, and thanks again :D
We would of used more but after it was all trued up it didn't leave as much as we would of liked.
Its finished with shellac. Cheers guys thanks for looking

Ryan...that is effing sweeter than sweet man. Kicks a$$!!! Id love to shred on it if ya let me;) the last 3 years ive had delusions of building one out of my bow wood stock....
Sooooo....hows it play? Is she soft to the touch and easy to move quickly thru the notes on lead and rythmns?
-
Neat. I wonder how it would have turned out as an acoustic.

Neat. I wonder how it would have turned out as an acoustic.
Its not widespread common practice (due to the price and hard to find availability for a louthier),but custom made acoustic builders have done n made acoustics with osage or yew bodies, and they sound great.
I remember Phil Lesh of the Greatful Dead use to play a custom made bass with a osage body...that thing was awesome and a BEAST. I wonder how heavy it weighed?
-
I'm not even into guitars, but that is freaking Sweet! Well done Ryan
-
Holy smokes!!! That is absolutely beautiful! Your friend is a superb craftsman. I was wondering how that project was coming along. Yes you are correct on the Osage. My Grampa cut and set that post in the early forties. Eddie has a stave out of the same post. Your friend really made the most of the red streak in the grain. Wow....I can't say enough about the beauty of that guitar! Outstanding in all regards! Josh
-
Very cool! When do we see the full draw pic??
-
Cheers guys, it plays beautiful and sounds amazing, but I have some large amps to help with that.
It's actually a pound lighter than my other guitar.
I've seen another yew body guitar, but never an Osage.
I'm not sure if yew would be good for an acoustic body, a little too soft.
My friend said he'd probably not use yew for one again, but he loved the Osage.
I can't wait for this thing to get a little wear and tear and patina on it,
knowing me it won't take long

That wooden pot knob is cool to, just noticed that was wood.
-

Beautiful guitar Goat. I was hoping to see an osage guitar when I opened your post but that yew looks pretty sweet with all the rings in it. Any chance of posting a video of it so we can hear what it sounds like?
-
Best 6 string bow, I have ever seen 8)
-
Thanks guys!
Clint, I'm sure an Osage guitar would be awesome, probably quite heavy.
I'm not too sure if anyone here wants to hear the kind of stuff we play hahah
-
If it's rock or rock like, then I definitely do. If not, I'd still like to hear it. :)
-
