Title: Finished new Osage Hunting Bow
Post by: NOMADIC PIRATE on September 28, 2015, 06:03:18 pm
Well, the plan was to make a take down bow, however after I fitted the limbs into the sleeves and went to put the bow together it became immediately evident that the unit wasn't gonna work, it was so tight that I had to literally hammer it to get them to slide in, and that was the end of the take down dream   :( :( :( :( this bow will never come apart again  ;D ;D

Bowyer rust is very evident in this bow but I choose not to dwell on the negatives but rather focus on the positives.

I have a new hunting bow that shoots real nice and it's dead in the hand ( sure the metal sleeves help that  ;D )

On this bow I departed from my usual thick oval transitioning to D crosssection and made a full flatbow, it's probably a bit overbuilt since it took virtually no set.

The 64 1/4" ntn bow came out a bit under weight at 60 # at 28"

I kept 1/8" positive tiller on the assymetric limbs

Backed the bow with deer rawhide and I think the zebrawood overlays look good with this combo.

Since it's impossible to hide the transition from the metal sleeves to the wood I dressed the ends of the grip with Beaver pelt.

in the end I'm very happy with this bow.

Is there a reason why you backed it?  Just curious.  Osage can handle a lot of stress without it.

I like the camo effect of the rawhide,
heard for years about Osage lifting splinters and such, as an inexperianced Osage ring chaser I left some extra material on knots so the rawhide insurance sounded good  ;D ;D ;D

lokks like today might be sunny, hopefully I'll beable to take the rest of the pictures
