Title: Monkey puzzle
Post by: Lucasade on September 28, 2015, 01:48:40 pm
I'm cutting down a monkey puzzle tree (araucaria araucana) for someone in a couple of weeks and it's got a lovely straight trunk. Is it useful for anything beyond firewood?

Isn't that species considered endangered?

It has a lower Specific gravity than Yellow pine and half the Janka hardness, I wouldn't make a bow out of it. Maybe you could get some straight billets for arrows.

It's not protected here and is a nuisance. You don't want to step on the leaves barefooted.
