I finished this lil osage selfbow up at the end of august, and have been enjoying plinking arrows with it. Its already taken a 3 day backpacking tour a few weeks ago down in the magical Monongahela National Forest. The first series of pics are from my lil trip, and the others are from today here in my backyard. Ive been setting it outside in the sun everyday giving it its patina. You can already see a pretty big difference as its darkened down nicely.
43" bow...60@22"

I have some more pics, but it took me an honest 2 and a half hours in front of my computer to get this far(computer/internet issues)...oh well..pics don't do this lil cute brute anyways 8)
-
Beautiful little shortie!
-
Wow man that's a sweet little bow!
That kind of weight is tough at short draws, your face says it all!
I bet she's a fun one
-
Looks like a lot of fun, Chris. I really like the nock.
-
Nice. Looks like Marc's little Elm Flight bow shrunken down. I wonder how it would do on the salt flats. Steve may chime in.
-
love it! beautiful pony bow. honestly tillered a little much to center. but sweet none the less. awesome bow! Tony
-
Pat, I was thinking the same thing, I may be shying away from bows with too much reflex and going to bows like this one next year. Seems like they give cleaner flight with those light low spined arrows. I bet it would do very well.
-
That's a tough looking little bow. The skins look great on it. I like the last full draw picture. Looks like a "bout to poop my pants" face ;D
Riverrat, check out the unbraced profile. There is a decent amount of deflex coming from the grip. I think the tiller looks great on it.
-
Now that's a killer little bow Chris.
-
Damn Chris that thing is sweet. Looks like it packs a wallop.
-
Sweet looking Ambush Bow bud...would be a nice one for ground hunting deer or spring turkey!
-
Riverrat, check out the unbraced profile. There is a decent amount of deflex coming from the grip. I think the tiller looks great on it. ya know i was just paying attention to the draw pics. your right.Tony
-
Very nice bow, but you will have to drop the weight some before you send it my way, it's much too heavy for me. >:D Its a looker and very powerful to boot.
Grady
-
What's the width on it? I have some short osage I don't know what to do with...
Sure is a cool little bow
-
Thanks guys :D
Goat..it is tough, but ive been shooting broadheads pretty good at 15 yards and under with it..n yeah its fun to play with ...thanks
Clint i put that full draw pic in there for that very reason knowing someone was gonna make the "your about to crap your self" comment..lol
Hey Lee...long time no see...and yeah...thats exactly what this lil bow is for..close encounters ground hunting 8)
Sorry grady...i like it right where its at...the higher weight makes up for the lack of a power stroke..BUT......ya know a lil tougher to shoot maybe
David its 1 7/8" wide at its widest,and i beleive 1 1/4" wide at handle...thanks
I knew yins flight guys wood like this....steve ive been having lots of similar thoughts
-
That's a lot of bow in a little package. Very well crafted and cool looking too. I like it!
-
Short bows RULE.
Nice work Chris, a real fine backpack bow that surely puts some punch behind the arrow.
-
One handsome lil bow, Chris. The fella doin' the full draw pic ... not so much.
I would have been ready to soil my drawerss with every inch of draw as it was tillered.
Congrats ... a real beauty/beast!!
-
Awesome power house you got there, Chris.
-
Man that thing is great! :D
-
Woo sweet, I'd love to know how far that spits a little flight arrow.

-
Thanks for all the replies guys :) mucho appreciated
Greg i think ya mis spoke...LONG bows RULE...lol 😁 dont ya remeber that whole debate/thread...lol
Hey mike..good thing that wasnt me in the full draw pics...lol 😁
-
That thing looks like it means business. Real nice. Just curious, but how do you know when to say when when drawing such a shorty. Myself, I just get a feeling, dont know if it is stack or what, but just know that it is as far as I want to go.
-
Nice little bow. I would assume that with that much deflex you would have put in some reflex. That being the case how much did you put in?
-
Sweet shorty blackhawk reminds me of an Egyptian horn bow at f/d, matches the unbraced real nice
-
Marc i did put a little bit in...and you can still see a hint of subtle reflex in the working limbs...i started with the tips being 1 3/4" ahead of the handle, and it finished up right where i wanted it dead even with the handle....i didnt wanna add more and stress it out even more...i wasnt going for anything too aggressive...this ones for the woods and my pack, and it fits/conforms nicely on my pack with that much deflex...thanks ;) btw im just finishing up a 56" r/d static ,and on that one i did put a lil more reflex in the working limbs....its all where i want the tips to end up when im done and what im using it for ;)
Thanks bubby :)
-
Cool little bow, Chris and you got all the goodie out of that little selfbow. 8)
-
Awesome little shooter Chris, That makes for a great brush blind hunter. Those skins look sweet on it too.
-
Dang! that's a cute little booger, Chris. I'll bet that will sling a stick. You look like Goatman with the hoodie.
-
Too cool! It looks like a handy little booger to tote along. Josh
-
That's the hell of a rucksack stick!
Nicely done all around.
would be interested in some specs:
1. how long are the levers?
2. what's brace height?
3. at which drawlength is lift off string from levers?
-
damn dude that is sweet. Not a big proponent of short bows but, you guys have me experimenting.my shoulder doesn't like short heavy draw lengths these days but I really like the pack bow idea. The main reason this thread caught my attention was the Monongahela.Spent quite a bit of time in the Joyce Kilmer national forest a few decades ago. Thanks for rekindling those memories.
-
Nice one there Chris. I like that profile :D
-
very nice congrats,,,
-
I saw this yesterday. It is a Beauty! Glad I didn't try shooting it. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn yesterday. Haha. It happens. I blame it on 2 hrs of sleep and a 6 he drive. I'm gonna post the bow chris made for me in a trade. Made a new string for it and working on getting some arrows tuned in. man can u make a bow Chris. Thanks for the hospitality and lesson. And I still can believe that BL bow didn't wanna bend with how thin it is. Thanks again man.
-
Thanks for the replies everybody :D
Simson the statics are 4"....brace is 5"....n the string lifts off around 19"
Ur welcome bruce....hope ya post your new bow
-
