Im as big a fan of straight bows as anybody, love 'em and build a lot. The truth is? A bit of deflex makes a smoother bow. I set out to build a straight reflexed Hill bow, I ended up giving the mids a squeeze with a bar clamp adding, maybe, 1" deflex. The results are a super smooth, efficient rig. I love it.
68" ntn
1" wide
Solid 50# @ 28"
Boo back, paduk core tapered and butt jointed at center, 1/4 sawn yew belly spliced.
the tips are guava, hard as a rock stuff. It's finished in a dead flat spray, ready to hunt. The back is my first attempt at a boo fade job. It was easy and I should have done it before now.

That is really a pretty bow sir! Are the extra heavy duty tips on there so it can be used as a pry bar if the need should arise? :o >:D :P

Great looking bow Chris! Looks like a fun one to shoot and build.
Good call on getting 2 long billets from that stave. Many would of

Great choices all around, and tiller. That bow looks just right.

Always admire your work and skills Pearlie. Really like the leather work, the bamboo finish, and those unique quava tips. Damn they look like beautiful polished rocks. Best of all, its a hunting rig, and easy to see that!

Thank you very much for the kind words guys. As always, its mean everything to me coming from my peers and not just a nicey nice family member who STILL doesn't know what they are looking at when I ask for opinions :)
I'm dedicating my next 5-6 weeks of shooting to this bow alone.
-
Yea buddy, looks awesome!

cleans up good . . . Chris, I mean!
Bow should be heck of a shooter!!
-
Looks like a sweet bow! I love the "improved" handle design! Patrick
-
That's Perty! The fade job came out real nice! Josh
-
Pearl the bow looks great. Any improvement on a hill style bow is good . I admire you and Howard Hill . However the hill bows I have shot had more hand shock than I desire. I do like the added deflex. Probably plenty quick also. Arvin
-
Thanks Arvin! That added deflex took care of that shock you mentioned. That's why I called my Improved Hill. I still have the long, narrow profile with reflexed tips. But made a shooter friendly grip and deflexed the mids.
-
Thats a beauty 8)
-
Thanks Pauly. It'll look even better with my custom quiver attached loaded with 3 deadly arra's ;)
-
Don't talk that quiver up yet

You know you will big guy, unless I break it first!
-
Great looking bow, I can tell it shoots as good as it looks.
-
Chris I didn't even know you owned glue!
I'm only busting man. Really nice job. I'm starting to favor the flat finished myself, and I think this one shows it off very well.
-
Wow....took another look.....And it defiantly has that unmistakable Pearl Drums tiller.

Its gone now Benny boy! 290" of glue lines takes a lot of glue!
Ive tried the Deft and Helmsman. My opinion is the Helmsman takes it for one reason, it dries very quickly. Deft can take days if the humidity and temp aren't just right. Both finish the same when they are dry.
-
Thanks again everyone!
-
Looks great Chris. Bet that shoots just beautifully.
-
Pearly Perfection right there!
-
Sweet bow. I always love seeing your bows. Another one nocked out of the park.
-
Nice bow there fancy pants. Those tips look really nice.
-
Thanks farty pants!
-
Spend a few days away and pow! here come a bunch of nice bows. That looks like a dandy Chris.
-
I got to admit Ive never takin the long slender bows to seriously...but you just changed my outlook abit... What a beauty and a sweet bend!.. One of these days I'll make a bow over 60 inches, lol... Brian
