Your welcome Jon.  I know the tiller is a little funky.  Little bit of hinging coming out of the fades.  tried to work it out but that was the best I could do.  But I was shooting bulleyes with it too.  I plan to make some more of these. Thanks to James Parker for mentoring me on making them and for his drum sander he traded some buffalo horns for.  It went all the way to Thailand and back to MN with me.  String is 10 strand 450 by the way.  Padded with B50 on the tips.

SLEEK, I'm glad you got this stave from lebhuntfish! "Untamed" IS a pleasure to shoot! Easy on the hand, hard on the target! Quite the character stave here. I'm pulling it to almost 27" so I'm getting 55# out of it.
I was reading PA and heard a thump at my doorstep, and the doorbell. I just knew it. That poor cardboard tube! I had to push the bow out with a 2" wide wooden rod to get it to budge. It looks like a beast, shoots a fast arrow, and the string makes quite the high note when the bow is strung and plucked.
Here's some pics of the bow, with the dog approving, strung showing how the handle is offset (and narrow) so it shoots like it's centershot, and a group from 20yds with the bow showing one of the plugged holes.
What is the blue plugging the holes? What's the string made of?
Thank you so much.
Michael Chadwick
Title: Re: place to post received trade bows
Post by: sleek on August 21, 2015, 05:31:13 pm
Glad it got there ok Chadwick.  It was a tight squeeze no doubt. The string is power pro fishing line. 8 strands of 65# test. Turquoise is plugging one hole but didnt want to only use thT so I made my own " saphire " of blue chalk and ca glue. It looked better before I got sawdust stuck to it while wet and had to pick it out and redo then it just lost its shine. It did make a convincing stone to start with though...

Im gonna warn ya, shooting that many arrows at that range can get quite expensive!  When we were shooting it we were getting groups inside 2 inches consistently.  I hope it makes a good bow for you and you shoot the snot out of it. It was fun to make and its a blast to shoot. What do you think of the citronella finish on it?
Title: Re: place to post received trade bows
Post by: Chadwick on August 21, 2015, 07:54:30 pm
I gotta establish a solid anchor before I'll ever get tight groups. I always let go somewhere out in front of my face, even with a 30# bow. In any case, I like the citronella on it. I'm headed to Alaska to guide moose hunters on the 1st of September... Maybe I'll have to test out if it's any good at repelling mosquitoes?
It's cool that you live on Osage Lane, Kevin!

Ok guys, I know you think I forgot, but I'm finally gonna post pics of the killer bow I got from JonW. This bow is amazing! It has so much power and its dead in the hand. I think I'm gonna call it "Symmetry" 'cause of the beautiful tiller of course, but also because it weighs in at 82# @ 28" (according to my scale). It absolutely buries an arrow in my target. I'll probably take it hunting this year instead of my usual. Anyway, here are the pics, and sorry it took so long Jon.

That sure is a bad @$$ bow! I had the opportunity to shoot this bow. It is exactly what Josh says it is. Dead in the hand and hard hitting! It's a very elegant and simple design but it's one mean dude! The tiller looks as perfect as it can get to. Very nice and we'll done JohnW! Congrats to Josh, hope you are able to take a deer with that one. Patrick

Take a deer?  Heck, at 82 pounds draw weight it ought to be able to drop the deer, skin it, butcher the meat, grind up the burger bits, and carry it out of the field back to your truck!  'Cause goodness knows you ain't gonna have enough UMPH left to do all that part after drawing that beast back a few times!   >:D  :) ;) ;D 8) :o

I must be stronger than I thought. OMG!! I thought it was around 65#. No wonder it was tough to get a string on. Dude I gotta get a new scale. I haven't used a scale in prolly a year. I'm glad you think so much of it Josh. ( you can tell me if you feel like cussing me man) :)

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting the bow I received from Bruce,(blaflair). It's a trilam, with a 4th power lam. Bamboo backed, my favorite! Not sure what the other lams are. I love this bow, it shoots great! It'll be in the woods come october. Thanks again Bruce!

Steelslinger, it is good to see that bow again and see it made it in one piece, despite the UPS handling (I swear I taped the heck out of the ends, but apparently it still broke open.  Did the fur silencers manage to dampen the twang of the string?  That was my biggest concern when I sent it.

Sleek, thank you for the kind words.  I have always liked Simson's bows from Bavaria, and I was imitating his style a little.  Plus the wood just wanted to go that way with the planes and sharp lines.  I wanted the tips to echo that a little too.
Title: Re: place to post received trade bows
Post by: steelslinger on August 26, 2015, 12:34:43 am
It shoots flat and draws nice and smooth. The silencers did help quite a bit. I am still trying to find some arrows that will shoot great out of it. Every thing i have is 65 or heavier.   I will have to buy some shafts  when I get some more cash.

When Mike said this bow was headed to a target shooter, I started to get my hopes up.  This was definitely on my drool list.  I like that it is a style I wouldn't likely do for myself--since I don't have the tools to do a laminated bow.  The glue lines are flawless, and it shoots as well as I am able to.  (My next project is going to have be creating better matched arrows and improving my shot.) It's a beautiful bow.

This is the bow I recorded from Jo Jo, I told him originally I didn't have the heart to string it due to some cracking noises once it was together and flexed. He said no problem he would make it right. I declined and he said he would surprise me. I honestly don't care about the bow or joes craftsmanship. I gave him an honest opinion. That's not what it was about. It's what it got turned into. The way the trade is closing just doesn't sit right with me, but I'll eat that. I was asked to show pictures of the finished bow, I don't have any full draw, I can try and take a pic of the profile once I'm out of work. I have no hard feelings for anyone involved in the slight hub bub.

Just got my bow from Huisme. I love how tiny it is and how flat the profile is. I havnt shot it much since I just got back from the gym before the mail lady dropped it off. So my arms and shoulders were rubbery. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. I know it's not bows or primitive but a buddy and I are heading to a range to try our big guns at a mile for the first time so that's eating up the evening to be able to play. So tomorrow I'll play with the new mollegabet and show it off.

Pretty sure it's the second shortest mollegabet I've made, the shortest being my own. Shows what locust can do when you treat it right ;) Short, narrow, and overdrawn  by conventional standards but it still holds its profile.
