I have a piece I've been working on, had to take some kinks out again and again, reflex tips and deflexed handle. Gonna try and use a old sinew backing. Maybe two. It'd be about 5 layers together. Hide glued on. ( I'm going for it so don't talk me out of it >:D). I deflexed it today and would like to reflex the tips more. Then gonna sinew. Going for somewhat of an angle bow. I'll try and remember pics tonight. I'm gonna reflex the tips tonight and sinew this weekend probly.
Bow is 51" long.
-
Sounds like its gonna be a good one!
-
How did you remove the sinew backings? I have a piece of juniper I sinew backed but I hinged it real bad and I'd love to reuse the sinew.
-
I just bent it backwards till the bow broke and ripped it off lol
-
Simson had a bow he did that to on here and said he was very impressed with the outcome of the pre made sinew backing lol.
-
Bruce, be sure the sinew sheet conforms to the new back completely. You may want to rehydrate it first so it is flexible.
Ryan, I removed the sinew from a yew paddle bow that broke at the handle. I soaked the bow pieces in warm water and once the hide glue softened the sinew lifted right off. I reused the sinew but not in sheet form. I separated it and laid it out to dry. Once it was dry I stored it in a big ziploc then reused some of it on o0ther bows and save some for arrow wraps. It was back sinew.
-
Ok thank you guys I will try it
-
Yeah I'm gonna soak them for a day probly pat. Also gonna wrap the pat m way to get it nice and tight. Should be neat if it works out
-
So this is what o have at this point.
-
Also have my two sinew backing re hydrating. Had to look for one. Apparently a mouse drug it off the shelf. Lol. Must not of liked the flavor.
-
Looks good. I'll be watching this one close.
-
I dig the profile
-
Easy on the reflex this time!
-
Got it sinewed today. Gonna let the sinew do its job.
-
Bruce, how are you gonna brace that? >:D
-
With a string joe ;)
-
Good luck Bruce!!! ;) now the fun waiting game...while this dries go make a simple selfbow n hone in those tillering skills pal. Id like to see this one make a good bow for ya :) Im cheering for ya
-
Lol another reason I didn't wanna put so much reflex in. Hopefully I'll figure it out or re use the sinew again >:D
-
I'm cheering for you!
-
Don't start cheering till it dries and the kink stays out
-
You bust your butt. You deserve a good one!
-
So the string is already pretty slacked. I'm gonna mess this up lol
-
Dont tell your self your gonna mess it up...tell your self the opposite. Just take your time tillering it is all. Get started on a simple selfie yet in the mean time?
-
Already working on 3 different bows lol. I usually take them each to the same step so I just have to get stuff out once

I hate agreeing with him but he is a hundred percent right. A well made simple bow will shoot just as well if not better then some of those high stress designs if they're not executed properly.
-
And that's why I call him Bruiser instead of Bruce, he is a glutton for punishment!
-
Haha a guy wants what he wants lol. I just don't like a plain flat bow. Don't know why. Just never dug em much
-
She's peeling back, hopefully not too much more lol. It's already intimidating me. Lol
-
That ain't too bad buddy! I got a piece of vine maple that looks like that without sinew or any heat Bending. The hardest part is string alignment and making sure you have a clean tiller throughout and taking your time. Patrick

And being careful getting it to first brace to not go under weight, it will feel much heaver than it really is, it can fool you very easy into thinking it is way heavy. :o Looking good so far. :)
Pappy

Pappy you got that right. If your not a wiz at floor tillering, heavy reflex isn't for you just yet. You'll make a lot of 25# bows. Or you'll have a rotten tiller just to keep the weight you desire. Ive done both a coupla' times, maybe ;)

Excellent point on floor tillering Chris. I won't embarrass myself by saying how many i turned I to kids bows before figuring this out.
