Bubby and myself found a knife blank dealer on the big auction site who had reasonably priced blanks. We picked up a few to try them out. I'll let Bubby tell you about his. The blanks seem like they are made from good metal. They are very sharp.
My first one was a stone washed blade. I think the scales are persimmon. I'm not sure. I was pretty happy with how this knife turned out. I'm giving this one to a friend who cut some logs into boards for me.

My other knife was a rasp blade. I tried to put scales on it without pins but they came loose. The metal was so hard I burnt up a dozen 1/8" drill bits to get two holes in it. They aren't centered and I'm not happy with how they look but at least they aren't coming off this time. I used some of the red streaky osage for the scales. I am keeping this one.

Very nice, all three of them. I think my favorite is the rasp blade. On the one I did, I tempered the tang on my gas range. I kept a wet sponge handy to keep the heat out of the blade. It really help with getting the holes drilled.
-
The knives look great but the rings on that osage log in the background are spectacular!
-
They look great boys, nice work.
-
Those are some good looking knives.
-
My hat's off to you men ... and all the other "knifesmiths" on PA. Congrats!
-
Looking real cool guys! Nothing like a nice knife. That reminds me Bub I got a pile of knife stuff wrapped up with some other goodies I've been meaning to send you a sitting on my workbench. I'll get it out next week

I am more than intrigued. Does the guy you found have blanks that are in different stages of finish and provide handle material and pins ans such? I don't think I would ever get into forge stuff but I have worked with pocket knives, restoration some. I would love to try my hand at finishing out a fixed blade hunter such as the ones you both have beautifully done. I can see where they would make great gifts for hunting friends.

Wow nice knives guys. Wild man gave me a nice blank at the classic.
Been thinking about making some scales from some of this bighorn sheep horn.
Mushroom season is just around the corner!

Chief just go to ebay and search knife blanks you will get everything from finished blades that just need scales to blanks and everything in between, even pocket knife kits
-
Very nice work, those look great. :)
