Title: Red Elm
Post by: Spotted Dog on July 29, 2015, 12:54:48 pm
Well got to the woods today. Too much rain to get down by the creek. I spotted a beautiful elm. 70" straight
as a sting pulled tight 5" diameter. Cut it and will go back for the rest later. I barked it and going to seal it.
1/2 to 3/4" sapwood , and heart wood beautiful red. I ended up with 4 bundles of clean inner bark.
I figured I could use it for something. Going to bag it up and freeze it . I think. I want to build ancient Euro bows and a pony
or 2 from it. Running sap like a faucet.

It all depends on the R/H of your area. Inside the a/c it should be good to go in a month or two.

I have a 54" piece of this in a form. Going to do a gull wing. I left it heavier than Billy did in
the P.A. mag.
