I made the stone head a while ago and just found a nice handle for it in my sons wood pile. The head is a fine grain beach stone that had the general shape. I put a piece of thick, wet raw hide between the wood and stone to help the fit. The cord is #22 tarred sine line. I drilled two 1/2" holes either side of handle center and slotted for ease of wrapping.
I brought the adze over to a buddies house and cut in half a green, 5 inch european bird cherry limb he had laying in the yard. It took about 8 minutes. The edge is still sharp.
I have to wait a few hours before photo bucket lets me load up the pics cheers fiddler49

Very nice, I'm getting into shaping stone for another hawk. Ed

Very cool! That's a lot of pecking and grinding.

Very nice work!

Smoooooooooooooooth!
Something very appealing about that.

Very nice...I just wonder since you made a primitive tool and put it on a handle then use modern cordage to finish. Some rawhide wrapped around it would keep it in the ancient finish. Really like the grooves cut for the binding to stay in.
