Title: Molle recurve?
Post by: DC on July 23, 2015, 01:12:05 pm
Can you recurve the tips on a Molle? Just that just turn it into a static recurve?

Yes, Vincent Minor use to make bamboo backed bows that employed that design.

Blackhawk has made at least a few. Go to the "Search" function and type in Molly Curve.

A Mollie is just the first level of a static recurve.

It was Bushboys current post that got me thinking. I don't like the looks of a Molle for some reason but curving the tips looks great!
In general would the stiff portion of a Molle be longer than a static recurve?

I've only tried it once but I know it works. I made one with string bridges on a reflexed lever and it was okay, hardly noticeable but not bad. Watch your alignment extra carefully.

I guess a guy could put on temporary bridges until the alignment was right. That might be an idea for any recurve.

You can make them any size you want i personally like the curve on the blackrat bow with this style but they all work(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/ishi%20book/daisys%20history/101_4443_zpsdbe8a4b1.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/ishi%20book/daisys%20history/101_4443_zpsdbe8a4b1.jpg.html)

I've been thinking the same things Don, a classic molly doesn't really catch my eye, but as soon as those tips curve a bit they look better and better. I have 2 yew mollies roughed out.
the trade bow I got from bushboy is exactly that, and it shoots and draws quite nice.
I think I'll keep the recurves mild, I wrestle with aligning a lot of recurves, and I couldn't imagine how bad it would be on long narrow levers.

That locust molle is still my favorite. Not just the wood mind you, the short, not-completely-clean profile is just as interesting as the golden brown  ;D
