Title: Trail Camera Pictures 2015
Post by: osage outlaw on July 20, 2015, 10:56:34 pm
We had a trail camera post going last year.  Should we get one going again this year?  I have got a few good pictures to start if off.

This doe has a bad over bite.  It looks like the top jaw is abnormally long.  We had pictures of her last year to.  I haven't seen her with any fawns.  She might have been to ugly for the bucks last fall.

Here is a young buck with good width.

I thought this was an interesting picture.  The coyote walked off and the turkeys didn't pay much attention to him.

This buck is getting bigger. He is trying to be a 5x7. We have his sheds from last year when he was a 5x6.

Glad to see our kitty is still around. Looks like she has a mouse for a snack.  Me and my daughter watched her walk by our ground blind last deer season.

Time to set mine up, isn't it.  I saw two very nice 6 and 8-pointers the other day trying to cross my road in front of me.  Maybe, I can luck out and catch them on the cam.

I'll have to put my camera back out. Generally all I get is Flossy and her kids. Occasionally a buck will come through as do a bear or two.

What do you need for a camera to get descent pictures? Cabelas Canada has one on sale for $75. I copied these specs from the website.
Quote
4MP Trail Camera
• Captures 30-second video clips
• 18-piece high-intensity black LED infrared flash
• 50-ft. illumination/detection range
• Accepts up to a 32GB SDHC Card

Wildgame Innovations Cloak 4 - 4MP Trail Camera is part of the reasonably priced Cloak-series micro cameras. It has a rapid 1-second trigger speed, still and video capabilities and a 18-piece 50'-range high-intensity infrared flash. It captures 4MP images and 30-second video clips. Water- and weather-resistant. Accepts up to a 32GB SDHC Card (sold separately). Uses eight AA batteries (sold separately). Includes USB cable.

I'm not after award winning photos. More just counting the number of raccoons and deer that go through my yard at night

Most trail cams give good pics, even the cheap ones.

Some of the more expensive ones are not detectable. They do not make any sound, and they do not emit enough infrared to be seen. Also look at how to program your choices in them. Some are really easy to program, and some are not, at least for me.

I really like how that Moultrie has worked so far.  A set of AA batteries lasts for months.  The day time pictures are good and the night time pictures are OK.  I've had it out for almost 2 years with no problems.
Title: Re: Trail Camera Pictures 2015
Post by: Pat B on July 24, 2015, 10:45:07 am
I've never changed the batteries in my Moultrie and its been over a year.  One thing I don't like about it is the trigger is too sensitive. I end up with lots of pics of shadows as they move across the screen. At least digital pics are easy to delete.

Looks like Bozo is back.  I found a pile of scat not far from the feeder that was the diameter as a silver dollar. We saw this guy the other afternoon down by the feeder and if it is the same bear as last year, he's gained about 100# since last year.

Not a trail camera picture.  Caught this little one walking across the yard today.  She picked a few leaves off of the wife's weeping cherry tree up against the house.

Two and a half mile hike from the trail head, most all of it uphill, four deer trails converge as they cross over a saddle on a high ridge.  Here's the money shot from this morning:

(http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo100/JW_Halverson/Game%20Cam%202014/Gamecam%202015/MFDC5016_zpsvxavsvrt.jpg) (http://s365.photobucket.com/user/JW_Halverson/media/Game%20Cam%202014/Gamecam%202015/MFDC5016_zpsvxavsvrt.jpg.html)

I have caught him three more times in the last two weeks at various times of the day and night.  Lots of does and fawns, as well.  Thinking I will be rattling some antlers on this ridgeline when season opens November 1st.

I moved the cam a quarter mile east where three trails converge again.  Those three trails are even more deeply rutted and torn up, so I am thinking I might see a few more nice photos in the next week, too.

Nice chocolate horn buck JW.  Hope you get a shot at him this year.  I was doing some shooting in the backyard when the wife called me inside for dinner.  I looked outside and saw this doe confused by the "deer" that wouldn't make eye contact with her.  She kept walking back and forth trying to figure out what was wrong.  It was pretty funny.  Tomorrow is opening day.  I hope I can get a shot at her.

Last time in, I screwed up and apparently changed the date/time stamp.  The following should read October 3rd.  AND I switched to video from photo, so I ended up with some really cool moving pictures! Click on the pic below to link to the video.

(http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo100/JW_Halverson/Game%20Cam%202014/Gamecam%202015/th_MFDC5093_zpsfzh3vw1h.mp4) (http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo100/JW_Halverson/Game%20Cam%202014/Gamecam%202015/MFDC5093_zpsfzh3vw1h.mp4)

I got another one just at dark the night before and it may be the same buck, but it seems to be narrower and higher.  Oh darn, I may have another large deer hitting this trail!

I am thrilled with him, to say the least.  Season is a month long and I am dedicating the first two weeks to my .62 cal smoothbore flintlock.  If I don't get a shot with that, I will switch to the .50 rifled flintlock.  And in the last week, I will surrender to modernity and carry the Remmy 700 in .243 with the Leupold 2x7 scope.

Clint, if you get that 5x7, I will probably hear your whoop all the way up here in South Dakoty!

Is he hearing the camera?

It's digital, all solid state electronics.  Nothing to hear.

Aw dang, now you got me worried.  If he can hear the little electrons running around in the circuitry, I am gonna sound like a continous rumbling pickled egg and roast cauliflower fart while I am hiding in the ground blind up the hill!  Great, just great!  I went from confidant to utterly broken hearted.  Thanks DC.  Thanks.

No problem, anytime >:D >:D He just looks like he's hearing something, maybe just listening intently.

I think the shutter window opening or initial focus adjustment, possible noise. Should have not been any noise that for into the sequence, I would not think. I just thought he noticed the camera on the side of the tree. Assessed the threat and moved on. Probably not  a second thought on his next trip through.

Nice looking buck Blob!  This wide 8 point showed up again.  This makes the second year in a row he has showed up around the end of October.  He seems to push the 5x7 out of the area.  I'll get some pictures of him working the scrape over the next couple of weeks and then he will be gone again.  That is unless he happens to walk by during daylight hours.

Nice bucks Bill.  Hope you get a late season shot at one.  I haven't seen the big 8 for a while.  I was checking out a fallen osage tree a while back and found a nice buck laying dead next to it.  Someone had put a good shot on it with a gun.  I'm not sure why they didn't find it.  Coyotes had ate the butt end off.  I took the antlers.
