I finished it already end of April but I was very busy in my job so I could`nt post it in time. It`s my first elm, straight and flat. The dark brown stripes came out by working down to the desired ring, it looks nice to me.
The handle is a bit bendy so I glued at belly side 2 leather stripes and wraped only a linen cord around, thought it is simple but effective
Total length is 62“, draw weight is 38# at 26“, tip overlays are buffalo, finished with 6 layers of danish oil.

Very nice, Hans. The tiller looks good! I love a simple bow like this
-
You did a mighty fine job on that.
-
Very nice!..... Brian

I like your workmanship. Well done. Your tiller does seem a touch off though. It wont bother the bow any just saying for future reference. The upper limb looks great, lower limb looks a touch stiff out the fade and bending too much in the middle to outter.
To save you time, typically folks dont chase ri gs on elm. You just need to remove the bark. Was a ring damaged? Either way, again, you done good.

Nice looking bow Hans, I like those brown streaks and the character they add to the look of the bow. Enjoy shooting that one, it looks smooth to me.
-
thanks guys for your Kind words,
sleek: I`m thankful for every advice, many thanks
-
Looks good to me,nice work!

Tiller looks good. Looks like a sweet shooting bow to me. Elm is hard to beat. Did you heat treat the belly? Elm on this side of the ocean seems to respond favorably to tempering the belly with heat. I built one a few years back that finished off around 40lb draw weight. After a slow toasting of the belly it picked up over ten pounds of draw weight.

That's a great looking bow. Very nice work!
-
Looks great nice job looks like a bow you can enjoy shooting all day
-
Man that bow is tight, really nice brace and FD pix.
-
Very nice! Congratulations! Jawge
-
thanks again for all nice comments,
Howard: I only used dry heat for string alingment and to get some twist out

Hi my friend,
nothing wrong with the tiller, it's just the wrong angle to take the pic. I've seen the bow in person and tiller is fine as also the whole thing and work. If I remember right it is the third or fourth bow from Hans - I think he has done a very good job.
And he's got a bad virus ....
-
Exceptional job for your 3rd or 4th bow, Hans.
-
My opinion is you did a fine job. Tiller looks nice.
-
thank`s again, yes, as Simon said, she´s my 3rd. and yes I got this Virus but I like it :)
I currently try me on a take down. let us see next time.

Looks familiar, Hans. My 1st and only bow was elm and that was years ago. Tough stuff and evidently good wood for a beginner. Mine is almost 30 years old and will still shoot but is lifting some edge grain so it stays on the wall. It only started lifting grain after a friend overdrew it for several shots. I may have a stave left, out in the shed.
Yours is much better looking than mine and will probably survive good friends shooting it. Great job!

Good job man!!! :) now go make another and another and.....
