Since my last blowup :D i have been pondering what to do
with a stave that sidewinder was kind enough to send to me
a few months back.
Its about 55" long and has a profile thats begging to be
cut in half because the ends are near 1 1/4 wide while the
center is may be 3/4
My plan is to cut in half and add a steel 3/4" square center
at about 8-10" in lenght and build up a riser around the steel.
but before i do, I wondered what I might expect from limbs
that after cleaning up are 3/8" wide at tips and can be just as thick
and say 1 1/8 wide at the riser, i think i can get 5/8 in thickness near the
riser and figure the limbs will be 24" long (could be a tad longer if I glue up tips)
as I never worked with osage I have zero clue as
1) what poundage I can get ? and more so
2) how many inches might these limbs bend ?
before i start I figured someone here might be able to take a stab at the above. .

why do all that, I bet at 54" ntn bendy handle osage you can get up to a 27" draw and 3/4" is wide enough to get a hunting weight bow that length, how long a draw you got?

Oooh ooh, bendy bendy bendy!
They are a breeze to make in some ways, can be great fun shooting. As for what they can do performance-wise? Prepare to be amazed! Take good care is stalking your tiller. Get it PERFECT AT A LOW BRACE and slowly work it out to full draw in order to squeeze the most out of the stick of wood! I used to think short bendy handled bows were prone to taking "set" but it was pointed out I was rushing tiller because it was simple full circle tiller and easy to see.
But your stave, your choice! What is not up for discussion is the posting of pics. You WILL post pics!

Bubby, its 3/4 in the center and 1, 1 1/8 towards the ends...
but 27" for 54" is great and if thats all I need for a hunting weight bow
then my plan might just work :)
also, not mentioned is this stave was split and its wedge shaped,
like a slice of pizza.. unfortunately unlike a slice of pizza the
2 rough edges are quite wavy in both directions...
untill I start smoothing the sides down I wont know
for certain any of the dimensions.
what i posted was looking at the highs and lows and trying to take into account
what may be its finished dimensions. ...

This one is a bit longer at 62"ttt,just over 3/4 at the handle and pull about 55#@27".it. Doesn't take much osage to make a bow.

How wide would the mid limb area be. Make that the widest part of the limb, tapering to the tips and the handle area.

Look at the grain of the wood before you square it off , fallow the grain to limit run off .

Ur nuts if u cut that up and try whatever Frankenstein plan ya got brewing in ur head. Plenty of wood for a bendy
