Title: finally finished bow - to be gifted to army buddy
Post by: OffTiller on June 10, 2015, 03:33:20 pm
finally got my bow i started last year finished. this one i had posted pics of crappy glue up on the backing and was so disappointed i sat on it for months trying to decide to fix or scrap it. knowing that i couldn't hurt it anymore than it was, i took all the feed back from you all and went to work. i popped off the backing using my heat gun (which was no small task) and sanded both pieces down. i got lucky with my belt sander which i wont be doing again - made me too nervous. then re-glued the backing using inner tubes instead of clamps which worked so much better in the end. i am so happy i didn't give up on this one because it turned out so much better than i had hoped. this one is going to my army buddy who this last year had got into bow hunting with me for his birthday. i hope he likes it as much as i do.

Why gift it to your friend when you could just give it to him??????????

When "gifted" is used as a verb as in this context, it implies an extra bit of meaning or sincerity to the act of giving.  Simply saying he that he is giving  it to him could mean that he just didn't want it and gave it away to get rid of it.  Using "gifted" is much more specific in regards to the intentions of the giver.  IMHO this is an altogether appropriate usage of the word in that context.

Very nicely done OffTiller and a great gesture.  I'm sure that your buddy will be delighted to receive it and put it to use.  Josh

wish i could have got on earlier to say thank you to everyone for their kind words. this morning finished up the whole package with a few arrows. they're some of my first finished arrows only made about 6, not all the way primitive (had to use superglue) sorry guys if that's a no-no. just got frustrated with wrapping the serving strings and it coming loose. is hide glue suitable for this process? this project has taught me a lot and these arrows are poplar (i believe) stained with dye and bees waxed. they have 125g field tips.  thanks again to all.

thanks goat. next up i'm gonna try a stave bow. hopefully something a fraction of quality as everyone else's bow here. but cut a few hickory tree's last year so maybe i'll get lucky with that wood being so forgiving.
