Title: Another knife
Post by: BOWMAN53 on May 20, 2015, 12:26:50 pm
I tried to do a hamon in this one but the mortar I used popped off in the forge. Oh well. 1095 3 3/4" blade 4 1/2" handle. You know what the scales are. Unsharpened clip

You can build a beautiful knife but you can't build a bow. Same principles apply; just remove everything that doesn't look like a bow!  ;)

Rob, I get it lots of different places. eBay mostly. Leafs springs were a craigslist find.

Thanks Chris

Pat, only difference is I get to shape the blade without removing any steel. For the most part.

Do you find that using osage for the scales makes it more forgiving to tiller the knife?

looks good.
FWIW make sure your mortar is good and dry before you take it to the forge.
less likely to fall off that way.

I keep coming back to look at this knife. It is beautiful! Would you consider trading it? Patrick

1095 You can't go wrong. I must have cutten 200 knike blands out of old circler (saw mill) blands.
1095 Is a  really good old edged blade steel. At one time I must have had 20 saw mill blands half 4 footers.

I make a knife or 2 ever winter in my down time untill gobbler season.
