My string split it down the middle. Surewood shaft, spined for the bow, only time this has ever happened. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. I was shooting very bad today also. Shots were all over the place. No shot groups at all. Only thing I can recall is I don't think my fingers were quite right on the string during that particular shot.

The plastic nock broke! One reason I rarely use them.

Note that the arrow split up to the wrap on the front of the fletchings. I wrap the back as well.

You probably glanced another arrow off the nock at some time or another and didn't notice it was damaged.
-
what nock would be recomended to keep this from happening again?
-
Self nocks with sinew wrap or reinforced self nocks

I think Eric nailed it, arrow was struck by another arrow at some point. Hard to picture how a plastic nock would split in half and then cause the arrow to split by just shooting the arrow.
As mentioned by Pat though I would start self nocking my wood arrows and wrap.

I agree with Eric, that is more than likely what happened . :)

I know whats happened your arrow was'nt all the way on, your fingers were holding it but the arrow was'nt compleatly on and you fired it anyway not knowing.
I've know someone and heard of 2 other people doing the same thing.
Thats why your fingers felt differently when you released.

thanks for all the helpful advice. I'm going to wrap string around both ends of my feathers for now on and try and stay more focused when shooting. if it's a bad day I'll just pack up and go home for now on before I break something. I also burned numbers into each arrow in each set I have. I'm going to start taking notes for each shot I take. try and find the best arrows in each set and rebuild the bad shooting ones. hopefully find a set of 12 arrows that match each bow I have.

I agree it was proably damaged before the shot. Als another good reason to position the plastic nock just as if you were doing self nocks across the grain. I don't always rememeber to do this bit it is a good idea. I would double check and make sure your serving is not too tight for the nock.

I split two at the Classic shooting Fastflight and not getting the nock seated good.
