Title: The latest.
Post by: cowboy on May 14, 2015, 07:04:02 pm
Brazos river gravel. River is an hour drive from here, the closest source of flint types for me. I noticed Sasquatch referred to it as jasper, I dunno but sounds fancier that way and I like it ;). For the most part it's a light creamy color but there are exceptions. All small pieces, wish their were bigger chunks.
Here's a pic of the gravel and some points made from it.

Very cool pictures.  Its nice to see a face, too.  For some odd reason I'd thought ole Sasquatch was just about retired when I went to meet him in TN, was I wrong!

It's good to keep your real self on the low and let minds wander! Haha. I, secretly, am still in my 20's.

Man Cowboy that it one nice collection!  With reference to the name, I think the grey stuff is simple Edwards, but the honey, yellow, and red ones are a type of jasper.  I love what you did with them. You are set for hunting for a while. Thanks for the picture now I'll be able to recognize you when I see you picking my honey hole on the Brazos?  >:D. Haha just joking.  I get mine from chillies parking lot.    >:D haha just joking again, but really sometimes.  >:D

Man I was wondering why your stuff was so grey.  Then I looked on map, you are like 5hrs north of me.  Man Texas is big! I think we have some different stuff.  This is a rock from the same river.

If you don't mind me asking, how long does it take you to knap a point like that? It would take me a week to make that batch if I quit working and knapped full time! Lol

I average a point an hour usually. That's three days hard labor right there. That is one pretty point tower made Sasquatch. He is one knappin dude! Matter of fact, I've adopted his notching technique. Can't even remember how I used to do it.
Thanks everybody! We really don't look like that. That's our fancy night on the boat cruising across the carribian  ::) ;D.

Haha Sasquatch: I know what ya mean. I have pilfered parking lot rocks several times in my life. But here in Illinois it's Buffalo Wild Wings.  ::)

I sent two of their fine parking lot cobbles to cowboy just the other day...

The best landscape flint I have seen as of yet is a place called Tortuga's in Galveston (got a piece) rootbeer'ish. Zuma, all them ten gallons are in the closet for the time being. I'll get back to it :). Wifer made me change that picture btw, last one was kinda skewed anyway ::). She's my rock so I had too ::).

Dang! I bet if I call you to meet me you will answer the phone, now. ;D Congratulations, to you both. That rock looks just like what I hauled out of the corn field south of San Antonio on the way to Laredo when I got voicemail. ;), and decided to "wing it".

Paul,
Its amazing how someone can take a pile of gravel and turn it into something that looks that good.
