So here is the game, guess the material. For those of us who have already had the pleasure of ogling this point/material give everyone else a chance to guess what it is. First one to guess wins the point!.... Just kidding. ;D(http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b604/joelbookhammer/DSCF8335_zpsojpuvtvh.jpg) (http://s1294.photobucket.com/user/joelbookhammer/media/DSCF8335_zpsojpuvtvh.jpg.html)

Granite
-
I win! I was the first one to guess! Didn't say nuthin bout being right. :D
-
Tallahatta
-
rock!
-
Flintridge
-
Of course it is a chert, but from where? Could be almost from anywhere. I found a source spot for chert a few years ago in New Mexico that had rock that looked like that. Just last week a friend sent me a few pieces of rock from the same place that look like Flintridge.
-
Sleek wins! ;D
Some good guesses so far, if I was playing Turbo my guess would of also have been flintridge. JEB you are correct it could be from anywhere, it wouldn't be much fun though if you didn't have a chance so while it is scarce it is not an unknown material.
First Clue: The material is correct for the point type.
-
Pennsylvania Jasper?
-
Quartzite
-
It's crooked! LOOK AT THE LEFT SIDE COMPARED TO THE RIGHT, I WIN ITS MINE. OK
Pm me for my address lol.
-
I'm with Matt.
I can't really be sure if that's a Perkiomen or Savannah River?
Perkiomen would be PA jasper and the base would have the
corners docked at a 45degree angle.
Savannah River would be quartzite.
Quartzite does not leave cool visible flake scars.

My first inclination was that it was a Susquehanna broad point, of course Ashtabula and Perkiomen are similar. If so, that would put this in the Northeast..
So, my second guess is Coschocton ;)
-
PA Jasper.
-
Sure is pretty!!
-
Hopewell Point wins! It surely is a odd color variation of PA Jasper that has recently been made available for our viewing and knapping pleasure. For those not common with the material below is what PA Jasper tends to look like or a variant of a yellowish orangey brown color.

Yeah, I never would have guessed that, the color you showed in the last pic is the only shade I have ever seen. Where could a lucky knapper get some?!
By the way, great knapping, I always liked the broad point styles.
-
Great knapping.
Like I wrote earlier, a friend sent me a few pieces of rock that you would swear it was Flintridge. The source spot I found has produced some very colorful material including some light yellow and purple rock.
-
Do I get a prize? Hahaha just kidding. That's some cool rock though.
-
Cant take any credit for the knapping of those 2 just the pictures of them. I cant find the nerve to make anything out of the PA Jasper I do have for fear that I will ruin it. I did make this one though out of some texas rock. Turbo there is a somewhat limited quantity of this stuff available.... any ideas Caveman on how to get some?

Here is another from the Jasper.

Well, I can check with Jay and see what he has yet and as soon as I get more cut and heated It will be available.

Do keep me posted, did you knap those 'caveman'? Are you the one who knapped the banner points on PP?! I've always been a fan of the broad point styles, nicely done whoever did. Nice texas one 'ghost', nothing wrong w/ that!
-
Let's keep the game goin.
Here is another one to guess at..
-
My first thought was Dacite. But that light streak is confusing me so Im going to stick to my first though so.....Dacite?
-
Good guess but you should have listened to the
noise the streak was making.
Here is what I started with.
The streak is important.

Looks like some Kentucky hornstone or Kentucky black. Bob
-
Yes, I knapped all of these except the Georgetown one That Ghost made, Its an awesome point also, and its as big as it looks.
. Don, I would say your is Kentucky blue or black. Poplar island or Morrow mountain.
-
Beautifully done 'caveman' and 'ghost'. As for the new material, I gravitate toward Hornstone myself.
-
Great. I some how wound up with that block of chert on my deck.
The real cool thing about it is the rings. Not concentric but spiraling.
I am thinking an ammonite, nautiloid type creature fossil.

I really did not know what it was but feel very comfortable it is
Kentucky black as you guys say. I never heard of it until today.
It knaps very well except for the bias of the rings. Very sharp.
