Title: Finally!
Post by: wapiti1997 on April 28, 2015, 08:29:38 pm
My second year hunting with a selfbow, after several misses I finally got it done!  No blind, DSD breeding pair decoys and a ghillie suit, 7 yard shot.  Carbon arrow, magnus bullhead.

Grab your bow man there is another live one just to your right.  ;D

Now to get serious, nicely done Wapiti, thats a heck of an accomplishment. I still haven't taken so much as a feather off a turkey with a selfbow so I'm jealous. Had 6-10 shots over the years and all clean misses.
Thats a beautiful bird you got there, congrats. :)

Yes, a body hit with a bullhead just bounces back.  A dead center hit in the wattles will bounce back as well...  I've killed 30 or so birds with a bow, body shots- even hit perfectly can still run or fly great distances.  I've had 3 that I cut the spine in half between the legs and wings still get airborne and fly a couple hundred yards before dying..  The neck and head are as big as the internal vitals, you can see them and when you miss, you just miss.  A miss by an inch or two body hit is a wasted bird with a standard broadhead.

When you miss with a bullhead you don't lose the arrow.  I miss a lot...

Who has two thumbs, a pile of osage shavings, a turkey tag, and is jealous?

A little video of the bounce back from the wattle hit, and a couple of misses... poor video, out of focus, bad lighting... I stopped it before the cussing ensued... That would be me.  I haven't mastered the skill of getting two primitive arrows to hit the same yet...
