I have been off work this week to turkey hunt. In the past, I would spend all of my time looking for a Tom willing to talk to me. I have still done this the past two days but I now get easily sidetracked.
I found 4 ironwood trees that I cut down split then peeled the bark off (I ended up with 10 staves). I filled a container with pine resin. I searched the campgrounds of turkey hunters that had just left and was rewarded with 4 turkey wings that they left to rot. I have gained an interest in knapping and brought back a bunch of rocks that have potential (After all it will take a lot of rocks to practice). I also found a matched set of shed antlers by tripping on them while looking at some rocks off to my side.
I will still drop everything and go after a turkey when I hear a gobble. I just get distracted by all the great materials out there when nothing is gobbling. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to concentrate on turkey hunting.

That sounds idyllic.

All that really matters is that you're having a good time in the woods. Nothing else quite compares.

The definition of the hunter/gatherer.

Another day of turkey hunting/gathering. It was the first nice day of my 5 day season. Turkey were gobbling like crazy this morning and I had one close but I blew it and didn't get him. I saw many birds today and did more hunting but I still manage to cut a black locust sapling and a hackberry tree. I also collected another container of pine resin. Oh, and I picked up a few rocks.
Another good day in the woods. Tomorrow is my last day to hunt and I can only hunt a little while in the morning.
