I'll be bringing a few knife blanks to the Classic this year...Ill have a few forged blanks, some cut/ground from spring steel, and some cut from old filed all good steel. I'll have a few finished knives on hand as well...If I don't trade them person to person,I'll throw them down for the trade blanket... Let me know what ya got and what ya might be interested in...I could get a couple done before the Classic if someone wants a specific design...Thanks Bill
-
Bill, I'd be interested in a knife blank or two. We'll work something at the Classic. ;)
-
Ok Pat no problem..What size and material? I assume your satisfied with the last one ya got from me?
-
I would like to check out the blanks to Bill. Maybe we could work out a trade for some curly scale material
-
I'll be wearing it around my neck at the Classic, Bill. I love it.
Let see what you will have and decide then, if that's OK.
-
What are you looking for in a trade? I will have some elk horn for scales and maybe some different woods. Joe
-
Joe: Im lookin for a little leather and if ya aint got what I want I'll give ya a blank! What size/style/material ya lookin for?
-
Bill: What kind of leather are you looking for? I have tooling leather for making belts, knife scabbards, etc, plus other kinds. I plan on bringing a box of scraps that can be used for bow handle wraps and arrow rests to be given away! I like skinner style blades, but to be honest I like knifes! Joe
-
Ok Joe..bring some leather and I'll put your name on a few blanks
-
I started cutting out my file blanks tonight..Got a good start on 4 as of now..
as far as a list I have
1.PatB 1-2 blanks
2Osageoutlaw 1-2 blanks
3.Wolfwatcher
-
You might throw me in for one to HickoryBill. Not too sure what I would have to trade but maybe we can work something out. Patrick
-
Ok Patrick...Im gonna try to get 6 blanks done...I have to just about finished now
-
Don't rush your self on my account. If you can't get the other guys done, don't worry about the one I asked for. It's not a big deal, just thought I'd try making a knife. Patrick
-
Patrick..Ya never made a knife! No I gotta make ya one!
-
Nope, never made one before. But it's on my list of things to do. I have a few old files and access to all of the knife scale materials I want. I thought a blank would be a good place to start. There is a place called the rose wood shop just down the road from me.
Would you be interested in an old farriers rasp? Patrick
-
If you have a French or English style scalper blank I would be interested. I am bringing some Osage staves (seasoned) leather , turkey primaries and secondaries and whatever else I can fit in the Yota.
-
Patrick.:.Believe it or not not all rasps and files are made the same...Ferriers rasps are usually just case hardened on the ouside, by the time you get the teeth all off or pounded out, if forging, you aint left with much good steel, atleast for knife making.
Wildman: I have 6 blanks promised out and I have 7 well on the way..Your welcome to look at the last one left
-
I didn't realize that Bill. I have a buddy of mine making a knife from one right now. Will they work if you harden the steel? Patrick
-
Generally speaking MOST..Ferries rasps have a low carbon content in the make up of the steel( The reason they case harden them) So hardening one will only do so much...Maybe he has a good one
-
I have 5 of the blanks all finished up..all different styles.I have 2 more to finish up tomorrow
-
I have about 20 files, some never used.I bought them for knives, the new ones are too fine for anything I'd use them for. All American made.
-
are ya bringing them with ya Eddie?
-
I got all the blanks(7) all finished up..i'll try to get some pcs up tomorrow... been a busy week! :P :P
-
Awesome Bill! Can't wait to see them! Patrick
-
Ok here is a pic of the 7 blanks. different styles..All made from old files EXCEPT the one 3rd from left..Its just palin old 1095( what most files are made from)...

Those are awesome Bill! My favorite one is the third one from the left. I really like the curved handle and the drop point. Patrick
