Title: red oak w hickory back... finished
Post by: paco664 on April 17, 2015, 12:22:09 am
been working on this one for a while and there are a couple photos of it on here... but i finally put all the finishing touches on it and it is DONE...

66.75" nock to nock redoak board with a 1/8th" hickory backing... glued up with tb2
pulls 54#@29"
leather handle wrap with floppy leather rest.
finish is cherry danish oil 5coats and 3 coats of tru-oil rubbed with 0000 steel wool between coats to a satin finish
belly was toasted in reflex and it holds 1" reflex on each limb
twisted up a 14strand string of 50lb spectra with a spectra serving...

hopefully tomorrow after work i will run to the indoor range at bass pro shop and stick a few arrows in a few targets to see how it shoots...

here are the finished photos with the money shot *(it looks weird because my photographer is over a foot shorter than me and in a eternally bad mood)

Nice work, maybe a bit stiff in mid limbs?  Sure it'll spit an arrow at 54#!

Went shot the bow today. . Bass pro indoor range. .. it shot excellent fast n flat. .. scared the poo out of me tho after about 100 arrows...Pulled it and heard a "tic" pulled a second time another slight tic. ..

Inspected the bow completely and found nothing.. so i decided it would "go or blow" and pulled it and let fly...

Nothing. . Put another 100 or so arrows through it and no problemas. ..

I am 99.8%sure the sound i heard was the polyurithane finish i put on (and didn't sand the final coat) was protesting. ..

It shoots flat and fast. . At 20yds (indoor range) the arrow seemed to hit the target in an instant...

My only complaint is i broke 4 arrows on metal mounting brackets at the range (bad mounting designs)

Sweet looking bend on that one. Looks like it will fling an arrow.
