I've got lots of this stuff especially the white stuff. It comes from small creeks in so. Ky. Seems to behave.btw I couldn't knock flakes like that off til Tracy gave me some tips at moontree..I'm gonna cook a batch and see what.happens

Don't have a clue. First thought was coral till I saw where you found it. I'd have to lean toward, I guarantee you that will knap.
-
I will likely be corrected here, but I believe that is creek cobble hornstone. It does not need heating. Good Find!
-
looks like it will knapp fine, send me some I'll check it for ya ::)

If its heated, will it bring out more color?

Glad to see you posting Marcus ! Daniel knows the rock in your area better than I , but it looks like good rock. Let us know if cooking it improves any. Looks like your showing that rock who's boss ;D

Its kentucky agate. Some of it can be real tough but will slick up with heat 550 or so.
-
I cooked a batch and it turned kinda chalky and crumbly. It kidnapped much nicer before.the piece on the left is raw.
-
Too bad. Good raw chert usually crazes like that
when heated to high. I think your chert would be just fine raw.

The chertier looking stuff on the left of the top picture looks better than then the stuff on the right. The right looks like the agate to me. I have had some of it do that also. Gets kind of grittier and not so goo. I think it depends on the piece.

Now we know. I think that rock will flake fine as is. You could try lower temps on a small batch, but raw looks like a good thing.
