Title: I seriously give up
Post by: Blaflair2 on April 01, 2015, 01:20:52 pm
So I went and checked on the sinew back Osage bow, the sinew folded it in half and blew the belly out almost the whole way up the limb. Im done. It's gonna be awhile before I do n e thing. So sick of my luck. I'm done. I'll make my trade bow then I quit.

Don't give up. We've all been there. Just give it a rest and try again later.
Will you post pics of the sinew backed bow?

That really stinks.  Sounds like a good time to shift gears and try something new or different.  There is always knapping!

I take it that was that good looking 50 something " Osage you had on FB?  Sucks,  looked good.

Let me grab you a box of tissues bruiser! There is very little luck involved in this hobby man. Its all about materials and execution. You can quit if you want, that's not something I worry about. But don't plan on getting any better while your away.

Instead of sinew backed bows or laminated bows, make some simple self bows. Work on tillering and your luck will change

It broke two rings straight across the belly and delamedbthe whole limb. I don't have pix. I ripped the sinew off. And broke it the rest of the way. I had a moment.

I keep and study my failures. That way I know what not to do next time.  ;)

Most folks have been there Bruce...n been in your shoes. I know i have. Ya know...two of the few of my favorite bows are simple mid to upper sixties inch long slight bend in the handle bows.

Honestly I don't think you ever learned to walk before starting to try to run. Once ya take some time and cool down get back to the simple basics and start over.

I think you could benefit greatly by spending some time with an experienced bowyer...they could clear a lot of things up in a day. Wish you were closer to me cus I'd really like to help you,and honestly I'd like to see you succeed at this. I know ya can ;)

Not to sound all wise, but I am getting rather long in the tooth!every failure is a lesson,at first every lesson is a failure!to be successful the horse has to be rebridaled many times before a failure becomes a bow!

Could be cancer.  The death of a child or parent.  So many things that could knock someone down for the count, where we could all understand the desire to just give up.  A broken bow isn't one of them, really.  Not making lite of your frustration, but this is all for fun, mostly.  Keep it in perspective would be my advise.

Bruce, jump back on that back and build a Horn bow. And send that new Glass bow to me to relieve you from any temptation to back peddle. ;)

Hang in Man, I once broke 4 bows in a half a day on the tiller tree, 1 right after the other, never seen anyone of them coming, :) go simple for 1 or 2 and just get a shooter then al will be right again. ;) :) :)

Keep your head up Bruce. Building things is my only escape. If it wasn't for the time in my shop I would be a wreck. We had a miscarriage in December, my Grandpa died the end of January, My Yellow Lab Pete died 2 weeks later. Add in frustrations with work and it makes for a stinky stew. At least I have bows to get my mind off of my crap storm of a life. Hit me up on messenger if you ever need to talk.  :-\

I don't think I'm giving up, just gonna take a new path. The bow was kinda the last straw in a shit storm lately. Pity party is over. I'll be here breakin stuff.
